PinkBlankie Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Hi guys... I was just online and decided that i needed to share this with you guys... ok, I've been LDS all my life and i've never read the Book Of Mormon... Well the first three chapters of 1st Nephi i have( My favorite verse is 1 Nephi 3:7- has been my whole life.. i think that because it was the first i memorized) But my whole life i've felt that i was in the wrong church.. i mean i can remember being 4 and at Sacrament Meeting and I just hated it!!! i mean my whole life i remember feeling this... But then at the same time.. the first time i remember actually HATING God was right after my father died ( i was 7) and i think that is when i really stopped believing- not meaning that i had a testimony brofore then. My father died about 5 months befoe my 8th birthday and in this church we all know that 8 means...BAPTISM... it was my father's dream to baptize me... i wished that he had done it too. But that's not the point.. the ponit is that for the first time in my life i am reading The Book Of Mormon willingly for the first time... I can't explain what is happening to me.. I am in 2 nephi which is an acheivement for me. I love chapter 3 in 2 nephi. I mean when Jacob perdicts a man called Joseph in the future to restore the church Christ organized... i can't believe it.. i read it everynight before bed and each night i am amazed. I can't believe the stuff i've been missing.. each day i am more proud to be LDS and am gaining a testimony of myown.... I'm sorry if this was boring- Blankie
Ray Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Not boring at all. Thanks for sharing. :) It made me think about the first time I read the Book of Mormon, when I was 28 years old. I had heard people talk about “Mormons” before, most of the talk being negative, but I had no clue what “they” believed in until I found a Book of Mormon on top of a fireplace mantle. I was a carpenter at someone’s house doing some remodeling, browsing around a bit while on my own, and only took a few minutes to read a few pages inside the cover. After that I started talking about it to someone and came to find out that they were an inactive member, who still had his testimony. And then not long after that, I met a returned missionary and started talking with her about it, and the church. Heh, anyway, one thing led to another and within about 2 weeks I was baptized. Before that I had been baptized by my Dad, who was a preacher in another church. Anyway, keep reading. I think most of the best part of the book starts in Mosiah, but I really like Nephi too. :)
Guest Janeya Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 I'm so glad you are gaining that testimony for yourself, and reading the Book of Mormon is a great place to go to for a testimony. I, too, was raised being LDS and many people say that we just automatically have a testimony. That couldn't be farther from the truth. We also have to gain one of our own just like everyone else. I can't wait until you get to 3 Nephi. It is just so inspiring to read the account of Jesus' visit to the Americas-it is my favorite book.
