Guest Starsky Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 The only reason the anti-mormons can't stand the truth, is that they themselves are the slaves of sin. If you were holy or something, maybe there would be something to gain from your drivil..., but you are sinful, and filled with hate. Why would anyone listen to you? Quote

Guest antishock82003 Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 How people like Snow and PD can align themselves with JS, Peace, and Paul are beyond me. Joseph Smith wasn't kidding. He meant what he said. It was a lie. He was making cr@p up. Why can't you accept that he made cr@p up? Zelph the White Lamanite. The BofA. Men on the Moon. Angels with Swords Commanding Polygamy. Stories. And people fell for it. And people continue to fall for it. I don't get it. It's very disheartening. Quote

Obviously Joseph Smith wasn’t kidding and he really thought men were living on the moon; but how does that make him a liar? You said, “It was a lie”, and that just isn’t so. In order for a person to lie they have to say something that they know is not true. Joseph Smith may have been mistaken but he was not lying. Now, his opinion that men lived on the moon is not “making cr@p up but is merely expressing one’s opinion. If I lived in his day I too probably would have thought men lived on the moon. It sounds like an ok proposal for a guy who lived in the 1800’s.Anyway, your lack of tolerance towards Joseph Smith’s mistaken ideas are somewhat disheartening. Paul O Quote
bat3 Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 So JS was guilty of teaching falsehoods as truth, but that isn't lying because he did not actually know that he was spouting off BS. I can agree with that. I also think that he very well may have thought that he had gold plates and that he was really translating them by sticking his face in a hat that had magic rocks. I think that JS might have had a psychological disorder. Quote

Behunin Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 If JS said resurrected people lived on the moon, isn't it possible that he was not speaking literally, but symbolically. The moon is a symbol for a degree of glory. If he taught this, then the "moon" he was speaking of was not the literal moon. Quote

If that's the sort of mental gymnastics that you need to use to justify the insane teachings of your "prophet", then yes. It is entirely possible. Or maybe he was just a basket case. Quote
