Carl62 Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 (edited) I just saw on the news where some CEO of some company said that "it wasn't like he was a hero or some world leader, I just can't understand why they are paying this kind of homage to him." No, he may not have been a world leader or a war hero, but he did bring happiness into millions of lives with his music and entertainmment, unlike some world leaders who only bring depression, murders and even destruction. The happiness he has given to people has to count for something. So what does everybody think, is this too much coverage or is this appropriate for what he's done in music? Discuss. skippy740 Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Well, you can't please everybody! :) There have been lots of comparisons with Elvis as "the King" - so just imagine if we all had internet back when he died. It would probably be about the same. I did watch the memorial and I enjoyed the spirit and the tone of it. I thought it was very tastefully done (well, except for Al Sharpton). Quote
EruditioSalvatus Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 If the rest of the world wasn't falling apart I'd say it was all appropriate, but with China, Iran, N. Korea, Honduras, and so forth it was a bit much. On a similar note, I find it amazing that mariah carey can be at a funeral and still look like a lady of the evening. Quote
Aesa Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 It's fake "news" to blur out the real news, the real issues, just the usual. Quote

boyando Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 I think that the press believes that the whole world thinks like they think. They kept talking about how there would be about 150,000 people show up with out tickets to the show, I mean service. About a thousand showed up. I will admit that I have caught myself singing along with Mikes (Mike really doesn't seem to fit) twenty five year old songs. So I did get something out of his passing. Quote
Maxel Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 I haven't listened to much of Michael Jackon's stuff- I've never been into the pop music genre- so I don't know, but didn't Jackson push the envelope on what was appropriate and accepted in popular music? Quote
