Hinckley On Hurricane

I am very impressed with what President Hinckley said in GC when talking about the hurricane:

"Now I do not say, and I repeat emphatically that I do not say or infer, that what has happened is the punishment of the Lord."

"We know, of course, that the rain falls on the just as well as the unjust."

I was slightly surprised when I read this, because I've heard LDS members saying something very different from what their own prophet said regarding the matter (some here on this board, if I'm not mistaken).

So do any of you disagree with your prophet?

Of course some of us may disagree with our prophet...but that is what makes our fath so great when we follow the Lord's mouth piece and obey his council and teachings. We're all entitled to our own opinions but we also must remember we dont always see the big picture. So, with faith we set aside our fears and disagreements and trust in the council and teachings of the Lord and His chosen leaders.

He did not say that what happened WAS NOT a punishment from god. Therefore, it could have been, we just don't know.

If that were the case, I would think that Bourbon street would be completely destroyed, instead of having reports that a bar was reopened there just a few days after.

Are you implying that god has a problem with bars? I don't see any reason to believe that he does.

Maybe all the bad parts of NOLA were destroyed by god, but he left the good parts (including some bars) alone. god works in mysterious ways. Almost as if it were a random act of nature. How eerie.

I'm implying the if there were to be declared an evil part of New Orleans, it would be Bourbon street, don't you think? Considering the murders that took place there after the hurricane from junkies trying to get their next fix. I'm implying that it was not destroyed, since a bar was reopened there before many other buildings in new orleans were.

Personal beliefs? No I don't think that God holds the environment that takes place in many bars with the greatest esteem. Of the recorded times that God has appeared on the Earth, I don't believe any of them were in a bar.

Interestingly enough.. many good people have decided to leave it permanently... now lets say this kind of natural disaster continues to happen for the next 5 years... how many would be left then?

It took three years of drought to get the Smith family to leave one place and to to where they were supposed to be...

God does move in mysterious ways... but He also takes His own good time...
