5 Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying:

6 Let us go up against Judah and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, yea, the son of Tabeal.

Son of Tabeal

The Lord even disclosed the plans of the enemy. He said they intended to “make a breach” in Judah’s defenses and put a man of their own choosing on the throne. This would be a “son of Tabeal.” Tabeal is described as “a man whose son went with the armies of Pekah, the king of Israel, and Rezin of Damascus, when they invaded Judah in the time of Ahaz” (Francis Nathan Peloubet, Peloubet’s Bible Dictionary [Philadelphia: The John C. Winston Company, 1925], p. 659). The idea was to set up the son of Tabeal as a puppet king if Judah was conquered.
