aharon Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Hi everyone, my name is Aharon and I am happy to be here. Let me tell you a little about myself I was born into the church and fell away for a while, but am back and doing my best to keep the commandments. I have a physics major and sometimes I question how some of the theories of science and the bible fit together. I have learned what the feelings of the spirit are and have a strong belief in the lds church. I have found comfort in the thought that even though I don't understand, I do know that when I choose to follow what the spirit tells me, it gives my life more purpose than without. I am happy to be here and hope to make some friends. Aharon Quote
john doe Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Welcome. Remember that truth is truth, whether it be scientific or religious. Sometimes religion throws out science and sometimes science throws out religion, to the ultimate detriment of both. They really are compatible in the end. Quote
aharon Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 I agree. The thing that has me baffled is how evolution and the bible fit together. I don't want to open a can of worms here, for I know that subject tends to stir deep emotions in people. I know the bible is true and I know the gospel is true and ecen though I don't know how it all fits together, I do know that by choosing the church that my life is better than without. I look forward to time when all those things shall be revealed. I think I will say something like: 'oh that makes sense' and be done with it. I think the lord likes to set up situations here on earth where we learn to trust the spirit over our senses, so that we can grow. Quote
aharon Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 Love your cartoon pic! That was funny. Science and religion do at times reject each other, and I look forward to seeing how it all fits together when all is revealed, like evolution and the creation story in the bible. I used to worry about that, having learned about it in my college studies, but it has helped me learn to trust in the spirit and increase my faith that it will all make sense in the end, and there is no reason to doubt my testimony just because science methodology points to the conclusions about life that it does. john doe Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Well, I view science and religion as having similar goals, searching for truth. Quote
