Guest mormonmusic Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) Church publications describe prayer, scriptures, testimony, spiritual experiences, expressions of Love to God and Man, as well as music are things that create spiritual feelings in meetings and gospel lessons. Have you noticed specific techniques or ways that seem to bring the Spirit into a meeting consistently? I've noticed one. When people talk about sacrifices people have made to live the gospel, or to serve others, I find the Spirit often comes into the room. Have you observed other general topics which tend to make meetings spiritual? Edited May 6, 2010 by mormonmusic Quote
Dravin Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) Inviting the spirit to be there explicitly through prayer. I know you mentioned prayer but you then asked for specific techniques so I figure what the heck. Also, while you mentioned it, I can't stress singing enough, In my experience Priesthood Quorum meetings tend to skimp on music and those that don't I notice a difference. Guest mormonmusic Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 I find that praying right in the meeting for the Spirit before a period of personal mediation, or listening to instrumental music, seeking personal revelation can really invite the Spirit. Also, if you express your righteous desires to the group, the Spirit seems to fill the room. For example, "I want you to feel the power of the HOly Ghost in your lives, to find favor in the eyes of God, and to see miracles happen in your own lives". Statements like that, that come from the heart seem to make he room awash in the Spirit. Quote
Baycitygirl Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Asking the Spirit through prayer is always a good way. We have the missionaries for dinner every week and they have said that one of the best ways to invite the Spirit is through song. I believe that, I usually always have spiritually uplifting music or even the hymns playing in my house. When you turn the tv on instead there is a definite difference in the atmosphere. So I think music is a really good way. But I think the beast way is through prayer. Quote
zippy_do46 Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 :) my Nursery class loves music. I believe that this has help my Nursery class more then anything to feel the Spirit. Quote
Justice Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 Yes, along the lines of people speaking about sacrifices... when they speak of personal experiences in general where they learned something valuable about life. I also notice it strong when people simply say what is true. Quote
Son_of_Joseph Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 (edited) I must say, having attended meetings of various other denominations, I can say that none are graced regularly by the pure spirit witnessed at Mormon meetings. This gift, borne by the Restoration, cannot achieve it's full splendor under quiet conditions. Therefore, don't be afraid to talk, laugh, cough etc during a meeting. Prayer may help too as will spiritually veracious testimony, but if the spirit still refuses to dance don't worry, it's God's will! Rest assured there are lots of good reasons for it to disappear from view now and then. In any case, only a very greedy child expects to receive treats all the time. :) Edited May 9, 2010 by Son_of_Joseph Quote
