I would like some feedback on Speaking in Tongues. My husband is Pentacostal and has some unusual ideas about what this means. I have heard that in the early days of the church the members spoke in tongues, but I had thought it had more to do with our misionaries ability to become fluent in another language quickly with the help of the Spirit.

Please ask this question in the LDS Doctrine discussion forum, retiredjs. This is the introductions area. ...and (can't resist) yes, speaking in tongues in the LDS church was something that occured from the 1840's up through the late 1890's.

The missionary thing is a recent interpretation that is sort of accurate but only tells part of the story.
