Hi folks,

I am a graduate student of Columbia University, and I'm writing a blurb about Mormons in New York City. I've had some trouble pulling up membership trends from 2000 and on. Does anyone know where I can find membership data from 5+ years ago?

I've called the public affairs office of LDS, but was told their spokesman wouldn't be available until tomorrow. I have a deadline tonight.

Thank you in advance, and I hope I haven't broken any forum rules by posting.

I'd love to read your blurb. I'm not LDS (yet), but I live in Long Island and work/go to school in NYC, and am also curious about this. I've seen missionaries in Queens a few times, but oddly, I've never ran into them in Manhattan.

Thanks Jason, yeah I'd be more than willing to share my blurb.

I'm profiling a student who happens to be Mormon. It didn't occur to me until recently that Mormons are a growing demographic in NYC. Should be an interesting report.

It takes quite a bit of hunting around, but I find that the statistical reports from the April sessions of General Conference are the best place to get numbers that reflect growth. They won't be regionally specific, though.

don't know if this is helpful, but according to this article:

"Still, Mormons’ numbers in Manhattan have increased by about 50 percent in the past 10 years, though overall they remain a tiny percentage of the population—the community has gone from 3,225 practicing Mormons in December 1997 to 4,853 by the end of September 2007, according to figures supplied by a church spokesman."

Of course that says nothing about the numbers in the outer boroughs of the City.
