USExpat_in_Argentina Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Hi! I'm new to this site, so I'd like to introduce myself. As my profile states, I'm originally from Utah and my husband (Argentine) and my 2 boys are all active LDS members living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. My boys are 14 and 5 years old. We're interested in offering our home this year for an active LDS high school student for the US summer (June, July, August) or someone who's already graduated from high school, since there are no exchange programs in high schools in this area (that I know of). This is an excellent opportunity to learn one of the most beautiful dialects of Spanish (Argentine), while your child is in extremely safe hands with a healthy LDS family with high standards. We're a loving and fun family that wants to share our home with the right young person. If you're interested, please contact me and I'll be happy to discuss any details. Kind regards, Kimberlee Quote
pam Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 That's an awesome thing that you are willing to do. But also a little scary for any parent that would even consider this. Are you through an agency or doing this on your own? We only have your word that you are a healthy LDS family with high standards. As a parent, I wouldn't send my child to a family that I knew nothing about unless through an agency where the family has been thoroughly investigated. Quote
USExpat_in_Argentina Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 Hi Pam, Your concerns are totally valid, and I'm also going to check the references of anyone who is interested in coming to our home. We can provide solid references from our bishop and stake president and others if needed on us. We're just as interested in checking references on them as they are on us. I have solid ties in the US and Argentina, so that wouldn't be a problem whatsoever. My motive for offering to be a host family is simple - my kids aren't learning English as well as they should, since we speak Spanish at home and I'm extremely concerned about them not becoming as fluent as I am (since I'm American). Any other questions, feel free to ask me. Thanks, Kimberlee Quote
Guest Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Does he have to be LDS? Catholics ok? Because... I have a college freshman nephew who might like the opportunity to train in your soccer clubs... Quote
USExpat_in_Argentina Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 Hi, I'm willing to help you find another host family here, since I have lots of contacts here, but for my own home, I'm asking that the young person be LDS, since it's a lifestyle for us and the fact that I have a younger child is one of the reasons why I'd prefer 18 or younger. Plus, we spend a great deal of time and family activities at the church. If you have any more questions, you're welcome to give me your email and I'll write you privately about this. Thanks, Kimberlee Quote
