First time poster here and would like to get a thought off of my chest. I'm a firm believer in not complaining against the Lord's annointed but something happened in Sacramento I strongly disagree with.

I have served in the auxiliary presidencies in various positions since getting married a number of years ago. I always strive to follow the council of my leaders. However, the leadership of the stake received an email from the high council which stated that there would be a separate meeting when the temple here opens which would only have local dignataries invited to it. We were encouraged to invite people who had achieved some sort of "status" in the community to the meeting, i.e., Dr., mayor, news anchor, etc. While I can understand why the leadership would want this to happen, I feel that this sort of meeting goes in contrary with the Savior's teachings.

If I am to invite someone to the temple's dedication, it will be because I love them and care for the salvation of their soul, not for a title or some sort of societal recognition which they have. The souls of the individuals who have achieved such titles are worth no more, or less, than the souls of the poorest people in the Sacramento area.

Am I way off base here in feeling somewhat confused? I haven't voiced discontent to anyone except for my spouse and intend on keeping it that way. The leaders of the stake are individuals who are much more righteous than I and I truly want to follow their council with committment and dedication!!! However, I'm finding it difficult to do so in this circumstance when it appears such special treatment would contradict the Savior's teachings.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Not sure if I can help here......the first Dedication of the Temple is always set aside for dignataries and other Church leaders.....then throughout the week there will be several other dedications of the Temple....if my memory serves me correct this was how it was done here St.Louis.

I think Palerider is correct. From lds.org regarding the Nauvoo Temple dedications it says:

...From June 27 to 30, there were 13 dedicatory sessions....

(“Hosanna! Nauvoo Temple Dedication,” New Era, Aug. 2002, 28)

It looks like multiple dedications is the norm. Now I'm sure the Nauvoo Temple was treated a little differently because of its historic position - but I wouldn't sweat it since the regular member will probably have their turn.

All temples have multiple dedications. The reason that local people, Mayor, City Council, School Board memebers are invited is that they are necessary usually to get approval for building the temple in the area. Not the school board but you know what I mean.

Since it is in Sacramento and there are a lot of state officers, politicians there it would be wise and a good way to introduce the church to them.
