Spiderjohn Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 I was wondering if anyone has some ideas how to get information prior to obtaining a death certificate. Here is the situation. I lost track of my brother over 20 years ago. I found something on Ancester.com that indicates it could be my brother. A couple of things are off. His day of birth. Should be Nov 3, but shows Nov 11. Middle name is Marshall, but shows Michael. But other information is correct. Possible reason for discrepencies is that there is no other living relitive, so if something happend to my brother, someone could have guessed at it. Hope this make sense, but is there some way to find out for sure if it's him without ordering death certificate? Thanks John Quote
Guest MrsS Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Go HERE, it is Family Search, At the very top you will see tabs, click on Search, then at the left click on US Social Security Death Index, Fill in the information that you have. IF he had a SS# and has passed on, then he should be in there. Good LuckEdited to fix the URL link Quote
Spiderjohn Posted August 30, 2006 Author Report Posted August 30, 2006 I tried and no luck. Genealogy is fun but very frustrating at times. :) Thanks Quote
Princess3dward Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 OH! I am posting this to remind myself! My dad might know. He is really into geneology! I can't ask now, but I can ask when I get back and pm you if you still don't know? Quote
Spiderjohn Posted September 2, 2006 Author Report Posted September 2, 2006 That would be great. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Quote
Brother Dorsey Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 I tried and no luck. Genealogy is fun but very frustrating at times. :)ThanksSpiderjohn....from my experience chances are if he's not listed in the SS death index...he's still alive. Also, Ancestor.com, although not infalable is very very accurate so you can assume the name you found is accurate and not your brother. There are other sources you can try but they are in no way inexpensive...try using Google and put in the words "people search", I'm sure you'll get dozens of links to search engines that might find his name and location...good luck! Spiderjohn Posted September 2, 2006 Author Report Posted September 2, 2006 The thing is since there were no living relitives, friends may not know what his full real name is. Or his exact birthday. I tried all those things you mentioned and I keep getting the same information. It's all close to him, but not 100% accurate. He was into a lot of illegal stuff and went by alias'. So that's why I'm not sure about the stuff I have found. Quote
