ctr123 Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 I'm just curious about the way a patriarchal blessing works. I have had questions before and never really asked anyone. Anyway most of the time people recieve their blessings as teenagers. I know that the blessings are there for us if we live righteously. What happens when someone (after they have recieved their blessings) becomes inactive, lived a life not worhty of these blessings. Than some time later becomes active? Are those blessings null and void? I realize that we can be forgiven of past sins and receive blessings for following the commandment. But what of specific blessings in our patriarchal blessing? If kinda sounds silly as I type it but it almost feels as if there is a window of oppertunity. Quote
annewandering Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 I have felt that my patriarch even knew as he gave the blessing where I would go wrong and he gave blessings to me that would help me be right with God. It seems to change to me as I grow older. In fact I seriously wondered a while back if it had actually changed. Some parts were different than I had remembered. Seriously different. that was odd. You can get a new one if things changed a lot or your blessing is filled and you feel the need for a new one. Some blessings are not inspired for some reason and you can get a new one then. Quote
ctr123 Posted November 10, 2011 Author Report Posted November 10, 2011 Wow I didn't know that you could get a different one. Kinda seems to me that it would take the sacradness out of it. Probaly because I never considered it. I love my blessing! It's just sometimes I feel like well I messed that one up. Like there are so many things in there that I just don't qualify for anymore. I know deep down that probaly isn't true. I'm just such a different person now than I was than (22 years ago) like he was talking to someone else. I THINK THAT I MAY BE LOSSING MY MARBLES! Quote
Guest gopecon Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 I don't know about getting a new one. I heard of people doing that and getting a near identical result to the old one. As for windows of opportunity...some can pass us by. It's not a matter of repentance, but reality. Think about a young man who was promised to be able to serve a mission, but then falls inactive for 20 years. He returns a married man to a nonmember spouse with children. That mission train left the station a long time ago. I can think of other opportunities that we can lose out on due to temporary unworthiness. We can repent and be forgiven, but we can't get the time back, and some things (childbearing, missions, etc.) have to happen in a window of time or the opportunity is lost. This is one reason why it is better to not experiment with sin. You may gain "experience", but you also lose out on time that could have been used productively for spiritual growth. One thing to remember is that we do not know the Lord's timing in everything. Children may come during the Millenium to those who did not have an opportunity here, missions may take place as senior couples, or even after we pass on. The Lord will fulfill His promises to his righteous followers in His own time. Quote
HEthePrimate Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Many blessings, regardless of whether or not they're in your PB, are conditional and yes, you may "lose out" on them if you don't do what's necessary to receive them. However, I'm open to the possibility that God will give us another chance in the next life. One thing to remember is that we do not know the Lord's timing in everything. Children may come during the Millenium to those who did not have an opportunity here, missions may take place as senior couples, or even after we pass on. The Lord will fulfill His promises to his righteous followers in His own time.+1I've known people who were promised things in their patriarchal blessings that never came to pass, through no fault of their own. I imagine God will grant them later. This life is only a tiny part of eternity. Quote
