Major solar storm heading towards earth

This just made news in cnn. NASA - Second Biggest Flare Of the Solar Cycle

Now, big corona mass ejections from the sun have knocked power grids off line in the past "think Ontario" but the big dady of all CME's occurred in 1859s with enough energy to cause the Morse code grid to shacks to catch fire.

Should a major Carrington event of the late 1880s happen to earth again this would be a taste of what it would be like in this video

A CME of the same magnitude or possibly less, will short out and fry every single "non electrically shielded" electronic device including power grid transformers! That means no more power for fuel service stations, water plants, banks everything. Transformers are not something that is on the shelf at any one time. Often it can take weeks or months to have one made up and shipped. In the event of something big like this happening, best to have food storage and non powered kitchen and hand tools to use plus emergency fuel and water storage storage.

The northern and southern lights are supposed to be pretty spectacular. For which we can thank the republicans, George Bush, and probably Rush Limbaugh.

Ugg dont even go there about bush. He really put the country into a near death spiral depression.

I would love to have more rual property and have land to store emergency supplies but as it is, live in a town home with a tiny yard. Realestate here is ridiculously expensive.

looks like the boxer "the sun" was preparing to give earth a one 2 punch, but the flare decided to go around earth. would have made for some night northern lights.
