Guest Monica Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 I have been posting for quite a while now and have a matter of concern with the board. Please, do not feel that I am in any way judging. This matter is of curiosity and concern for me so that I can see where everyone is coming from. On the post, expecially that deal with matters that deal with God, I see little scriptural documenation, and lots of assumptions that contradict the scriptures. Is there any reason why scriptures are being overlooked? The reason why I bring this up, is because I have seen many people come here to ask deep questions, get sound advice, or just vent at situations going on in their lives, looking for answers, reasons, explanations and hope. Giving erroneous information reguarding Our Heavenly Father can be detremental to someone in need of spiritual guideance. What do you guys and gals think? Quote
CrimsonKairos Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 I think many of us understand scriptures differently, and there is room for a variety of interpretations on matters that aren't clearly spelled out.D&C 88:118And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith. Many on this board share their accumulated wisdom, wisdom not couched in the language of scripture but wisdom nonetheless. Such wisdom, gleaned from the chapters of our lives (not the scriptures) can be valuable to many people. To insist that each word of counsel or advice be attended with scripture verses is, to me, overly-burdensome.Wisdom is often acquired through faithful living of the gospel. I love learning from others' experiences and revelations. The Spirit discerns and confirms truth when and where it is shared. There need not always be scriptural backing for someone's views to be valid. I'm talking about interpreting how the scriptures affect our day-to-day lives.Of course if someone wants to establish the official Church doctrine in some regard, they had better have scriptures from the Standard Works to verify their assertions. Rosewood Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Spiritual guidance comes most accurately by way of the Spirit; in your closet so to speak. Thats my testimony. We probably should quote scripture more, but as CK said, many of us understand them differently. And even quoting the prophet can be ambiguous. Giving erroneous information reguarding Our Heavenly Father can be detremental to someone in need of spiritual guideance. This is just a talk forum, we're only human, and this is just a discussion. A meeting of the minds, so to speak. People should consider what is being said and then take it to the Lord. Meditation and prayer. James 1 3 Knowing this, that the atrying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be aperfect and entire, wanting nothing. 5 aIf any of you lack bwisdom, let him ask of God, that cgiveth to all men liberally, and dupbraideth not; and it shall be given him. John 1427 aPeace I leave with you, my bpeace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be ctroubled, neither let it be afraid. :) Quote
