Guest lt Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 OK...Ok... I know this is a wierd question...But a friend of mine and I are arguing over ...weather (forgiveness) is apart of our natural man state (meaning we are born with it) or it's of the (spiritual state) Something we learn through spiritual growth....... Any help here? LaurelTree Quote

Do you mean whether we are born with the ability to forgive or it's something we must develop? If that is the question, I definitely think that some people have more forgiving nature than others. For some people, forgiveness is very difficult and they have to work extra hard at it. Others simply get over things quicker, but most likely struggle with other issues. We all have strengths and weaknesses inborn. Quote

AFDaw Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 I would agree with all that has been stated. Quote
Guest Xalen Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 i've also had similar conversations about whether or no the notion of a "Godsized hole" is true. by that i mean are people walking aroudn actualy seeking something to put their faith in and hearing about Jesus helps them find the perfect fit for that hole, or whether natural man is not seeking and doesn't realise he has a hole until he sees Jesus and THEN sees the hole. what do you think about that? Either or... I've heard testimonials from people of both types. Quote
Guest curvette Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 I also think that people's inclination to forgive can be interfered with by experience. A child may have a forgiving nature by birth, but if raised in a home where he/she is constantly betrayed or lied to by a parent may lose that natural inclination and become suspicious and skeptical. I think nature vs nurture are both really important elements in who we grow up to be. Quote

But getting over something... can be something we have when a small child...or it can be something we learn by our parents example... but it doesn't necessarily mean we know how to forgive..I have seen people who 'got over' something easily early in their life....just to have it rear it's ugly head when they were in their 40s.They didn't really deal with it....and forgive...they just accomadated...hid it deep within their subconscience... i've also had similar conversations about whether or no the notion of a "Godsized hole" is true. by that i mean are people walking aroudn actualy seeking something to put their faith in and hearing about Jesus helps them find the perfect fit for that hole, or whether natural man is not seeking and doesn't realise he has a hole until he sees Jesus and THEN sees the hole. what do you think about that? I think that many may have the hole and not recognize it until they learn about Jesus. Quote
