I certainly believe that homosexuality and the rampant acceptance it now seems to enjoy is a sign of the end times. I think that a homosexual union is barren because it can in no ways bear good fruit. I am not referring to offspring....

The licentious filth of homosexuality and all forms of sexual perversion and unbridled passions are abomination in the sight of God. When the Lord returns to cleanse the earth , it will be cleansed of the unrighteous....whomever they may be and membership in HIS church will not provide shelter, only righteousness will be a shield.

"We are the servants of the Lord, and he has sent us to deliver a message to the world.

The Lord has a message for people today, and he has revealed it to us. We are commanded to go forth, in his name and by his power, and tell all men everywhere what lies ahead and what the Lord wants them to do about it.

Peace has been taken from the earth. This is a day of wars and rumors of wars (see D&C 45:26). Plagues and pestilence and desolation shall soon sweep the earth.

We live in a day of distress and perplexity; nations are ill at ease, and all things are in commotion. Men’s hearts are failing them for fear, and the great and dreadful day of the Lord is near, even at the door (see D&C 45:26; D&C 110:16).

We live in a day of evil and wickedness. The generality of men are carnal, sensual, and devilish. They have forgotten God and are reveling in the lusts of the flesh. Crime, immorality, abortions, and homosexual abominations are fast becoming the norm of life among the wicked and ungodly. The world will soon be as corrupt as it was in the days of Noah.

If any of us are to escape the perils that lie ahead, if any of us are to abide the day of the Lord’s return, if any of us are to gain peace in this life and be inheritors of eternal life in the world to come, we must receive the message sent from on high and conform to the counsel it contains. -Elder Bruce R McConkie , October 1980 General Conference

I'm not making an argument for or against the homosexuality and the marriage debate. I'm saying it's a distraction and a false sense of security to point the finger at someone else. There is a major problem among the covenant ppl when it comes to protecting the sanctity of marriage. If we don't admit and address that then it won't matter what gays do, the downfall will come from within. Remove the mote from your own eye before focusing on the beam in your neighbors.

However, I do agree with you Traveler, we do legislate morals and we do need to be very concerned with the morals of society. I just think we better shape society by managing ourselves and saying "come follow me" than we do by saying "you should be/do....." while we break our own covenants. Many would call that hypocritical.

I agree with what you are saying. I didn't make this thread to cast judgement on gays. They are human beings who deserve love and compassion etc. Christ suffered for us all.

Regardless though, openly bringing homosexual relations, which are abominable, into a Temple by force or choice could very well be the Abomination of Desolation. That is all I'm saying. I'm not here to say my sins are better than yours and so forth. I am not pointing out any specific people but rather a specific type of sin. We are all sinners.

I think that the abomination of desolation is more of a general description of the conditions found on earth rather than one specific abomination such as the one you describe, that bring about the cleansing of the earth at the Saviors return.

I don't understand why "the most abominable" sins are always thought of to be coming from someone that hasn't even got a testimony. When I read about the abominable things that are so great to offend god I usually end up thinking along the lines of denying the holy ghost. They aren't sins coming from ppl that don't know better. It's the sins from his covenant ppl that are so offensive and abominable.

This is the reason why I love the verse in the New Testament, Matthew 26: 22, when the Savior is speaking about one of the Apostles betraying him and the apostles are quoted to have said this,

"Lord is it I"?

I would venture to say, it is both the sins of those who know better and the sins of those who are know better due to the upbringing they received, although they may not have received the gospel yet.

Smeagums, have you ever known a homosexual well enough to love them as God commanded? You should give it a try

I think this comment begs for clarity LM. Perhaps posing the question as," Have you ever known anyone ensnared by homosexuality well enough to love them despite their abominations?" It is fairly obvious the Smeagums is referring to men or women that have given themselves over to these desires and fully embrace the homosexual lifestyle.

He might even retort,"LM, have you ever known someone well enough who is living in the grips of homosexuality to show them love by warning them that their behavior is an abomination in the sight of God?" As God commanded...

The problem I have with the homosexual issue is that we all too often want to show love by acceptance of their behavior or justification of it because they were "born that way" or "why shouldn't they marry because they love each other" and please note I am not referring to people who struggle with SSA or rather struggle against it and disavow it and any self identifying as homosexual or gay because the implication or acceptance of the label ultimately is acceptance on some level of the behavior. (que the outrage)

I will conclude with a couple of quotes from a Prophet of God:

"Every form of homosexuality is sin."- Spencer Kimball and perhaps a most needed message to all:

"Could it be possible that many of us, like a cork in a stream, have been swept off our destiny line by false concepts, perilous ways, and doctrines of devils? By whom are we enticed? Have we accepted the easy way and veered off from the “strait and narrow” way to the easy and comfortable way and the broad way which leads to sorrowful ends? We know better than we do. Will you listen? Will you follow the advice and counsel of your leaders, local and general? Or will you choose your own paths though they lead you into the dark wilderness?

God bless you, our beloved people. Listen to the words of heaven. God is true. He is just. He is a righteous judge, but justice must come before sympathy and forgiveness and mercy.

Remember, God is in his heavens. He knew what he was doing when he organized the earth. He knows what he is doing now. Those of us who break his commandments will regret and suffer in remorse and pain. God will not be mocked. Man has his free agency, it is sure, but remember, GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED.

Our counsel then to you is to live strictly the laws of your Heavenly Father. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen." - President Spencer Kimball

And From Elder McConkie:

We live in a day of evil and wickedness. The generality of men are carnal, sensual, and devilish. They have forgotten God and are reveling in the lusts of the flesh. Crime, immorality, abortions, and homosexual abominations are fast becoming the norm of life among the wicked and ungodly. The world will soon be as corrupt as it was in the days of Noah.

Sigh................but bold declarations by "preachers of righteousness" are now seen as....dated, passe, or irrelevant....and just plain mean. Pardon me....now I rant...

I love this thread. I just became aware of this view point. I actually think it has much to do with what will happen. It incorporates exactly what Glen stated here:

The OP states these things will be practiced INSIDE the temple. The great anti-Christ is supposed to walk right into the temple and claim to be God and disgrace the temple. (This one may be in Jerusalem) But we too do know this, "upon my house shall it begin".

Why? Because something or someone will disgrace (make unholy) the temple of God to such a degree God will have no choice but to cleanse it and the people. Gay marriage is one way. It would likely be a MEMBER of the 12 who accepts it or does it. Infact if the government forced such a notion, it could divide the church in half. Some will allow it to "uphold the government" others will "uphold the laws of God".... Than the 15 will choose a side all the way to the bottom.

Perhaps, the ones who uphold the laws of God will be required to resign or perhaps something entirely different. Others like Cleon Skousen had the view of our temples becoming disgraced.

Not sure how but I do think this is ONE likely scenario. It takes into account "a test is coming, a test, a Test, a TEST" and "each will be left with the light within themselves"... This scenario would create such confusion for the membership if they don't have the spirit they would fall. Perhaps this could be considered another form of "the mark of the beast" (just another view, there are dozens out there)

There is a quote from the original 12 to JS that states that once we are not allowed to worship in our temples the wrath of God will be released (paraphrasing extensively).
