Hello all,

I am not sure where to post this but I had a question in regards to becoming a mormon.

First off, I am a single mom with 2 kids...all the time, and I have always been spiritual. I was raised a catholic but never attended church after I was 14. The last few years I have been trying out different churches ( baptist, christian ect) and did not feel any real pull of faith ( so to say)

I met 2 missionaries when they showed up at my door at a very trying time in my life. After a few visits and meetings, I decided to go to the church and my son joined the young mens group.

However after feeling a little pushed for my son to get baptised and reading the questions that you are asked when baptised, I decided after months of bible meetings , to not continue ... I spoke with the missionaries and told them I did not quite "agree" with some of the beliefs and so on. They said they would pray for me and that I should pray and see what happened. I ended up later that week asking god if I was making the right decision in not following through with becoming a Mormon.

The other night while I was sleeping, I had a dream.

While standing out in my driveway, I saw a man across the street doing construction with a back hoe, he resembled my ex boyfriend ( or so I thought) and I decided to walk towards him to see if he recognized me. He seemed to know I was there and he turned around and came towards me. I looked away and when I went to look again, he was in front of me , but backwards and he had long shoulder length dirty blonde hair and he turned around, and I had never seen him before, he then said to me

" Lisa, are you coming back to the church of latter day saints?"

And he smiled, and I did not know what to say or do.

Then I woke up........

Is this a sign for me? I have never had an experience lucid dream such as this.......

Its your Dream, only you know what your dream means.

But... Dreams tend to show what is on our minds.

Did you have a chance to read the Book of Mormon any? I highly recommend it.

Missionaries can seem pushy at times. But if you look at it from their point of view, they wouldn't push unless they felt you were ready, even if its just to the next step.

I'm not sure which questions pushed you away?

We all progress differently towards our Heavenly Father. He knows that. Actually as I was typing that, a scripture from the Book of Mormon came to me. In Mosiah 4:27

27 And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order.

I know if you listen to the spirit, you can find what your Heavenly Father wants for you!

I was once told on my mission that if a dream is from God then you can ask for an interpretation and an interpretation will be given.

I dreamt one night, and when I awoke I asked the Lord if this dream had any meaning for my life, because it was a lucid dream, as you would call it. The moment I finished my prayer the dream was brought back to my remembrance from the beginning to the end, and while I was progressing through the dream the spirit of the Lord enlightened my mind and understanding regarding the dream. Each phase of the dream I had been given an interpretation.

The Lord does work through dreams to teach his children.

I personally don't believe that every dream has a meaning. I think dreams are just more of what's going on in our subconscious. Many times I've had dreams, and in the morning I can think back to the dream, and how each aspect of the dream had something to do with the day before.

However, that being said, I've received some very strong answers to questions I've been having through dreams. So yes, I do think that dreams are a way to answering.

As one person earlier said, what questions did the Missionaries ask you or what points of doctrine were you not quite comfortable with? Maybe we can help answer some of your concerns, or shed some light on why those are there.

The Missionaries are there to help and are pushy for a reason. They know that the next step is baptism, and that's their main goal in teaching you. They're good at what they do, and they obviously want to help you get to that point.

Ultimately, you have to go to the source. Pray and ask your Father in Heaven what you should do. If you're thirsty and need a drink of water, you can either drink from the ocean, the river, or the stream. They're all sources of water, but which one is the cleanest? Go directly to your Father in Heaven and ask Him what he wants from you.

It is just a dream. Be careful to giving meaning to dreams, just google the things you are unsure about. Having a face to face interview for example is great, but you don't ask a candidate for an important job about himself "only" you do a background check. A church will play an important part in the decisions you will be making in your life so I urge you to use google and read a bit about the church's history. You may find some things that are ...well you will see, just read on. Be your own background checking agency with google, trust me it's all there.

Does the Lord speak to his children via dreams?

1 Kings 3:5 In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

Genesis 37:5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.

Daniel 7:1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.

Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

The answer to that is clearly a resounding yes! Yet although the scriptures above were of men clearly in tune with the Lord or prophets in his sight, what of others?

In Genesis 20 we have God speaking to Abimelech king of Gerar in a dream. In Genesis 31 we have the God speaking to Laban the Syrian in a dream. In Genesis 41 we have the Pharaoh of Egypt being sent a dream by the Lord as well as King Nebuchadnezzar and King Darius in Daniel. Then there is the wife of Pontius Pilate in Matthew 27 as well.

The Lord is God and he will send forth dreams and visions unto anyone he sees fit to send them to. That being said, not all dreams and visions come from the Lord our God.

Jeremiah 23:32 Behold I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them and cause my people to err by their lies, and by thier lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the Lord.

Jeremiah 29:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.

In Jeremiah we have false dreams being received by the people which were in opposition to the revelations through Jeremiah and not from the Lord.

Deuteronomy 13:

1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,

2 And the sign or wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;

3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heat and with all your soul.

Even if the dream or dreamer gives a sign that comes to pass, if that dream/vision or dreamer entices you to disbelieve in Jesus Christ and follow after false Gods or break his revealed commandments, that dream was not of God but Satan.

"We may look for angels and receive their ministrations, but we are to try the spirits and prove them, for it is often the case that men make a mistake in regard to these things. God has so ordained that when He has communicated, no vision [or dream] is to be taken but what you see by the seeing of the eye, or what you hear by the hearing of the ear. When you see a vision, pray for the interpretation; if you get not this, shut it up; there must be certainty in this matter. An open vision will manifest that which is more important. Lying spirits are going forth in the earth. There will be great manifestations of spirits, both false and true.

Not every spirit, or vision, or singing, is of God. The devil is an orator; he is powerful; he took our Savior on to a pinnacle of the Temple, and kept Him in the wilderness for forty days. The gift of discerning spirits will be given to the Presiding Elder. Pray for him that he may have this gift. Speak not in the gift of tongues without understanding it, or without interpretation. The devil can speak in tongues; the adversary will come with his work; he can tempt all classes; can speak in English or Dutch. Let no one speak in tongues unless he interpret, except by the consent of the one who is placed to preside; then he may discern or interpret, or another may. Let us seek for the glory of Abraham, Noah, Adam, the Apostles, who have communion with [knowledge of] these things, and then we shall be among that number when Christ comes." - Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Joseph Fielding Smith, p. 161-162

Genesis 40

6 And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.

7 And he asked Pharaoh’s officers that were with him in the ward of his lord’s house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?

8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.

Of experience I will tell you this, the cunning of the devil is such that the individual who does not when awake take the course to ask the Lord their God in the name of Jesus Christ the source of a dream/vision they suppose to be from him, will sooner or later be deceived. For as Joseph Smith said, there must be certainty on the matter for lying spirits are going forth in the earth striving to deceive.

The interpretations of dreams belong to God. If you want to know what a dream means, ask God in the name of Jesus Christ. If the dream was from the Lord and you ask in faith, then you will receive an answer from the Lord.

So the question remains, "Lisa, are you coming back to the Church of Latter-day Saints?"

Do you believe in Jesus Christ? That he truly is the Son of God and your Savior? Do you have faith in Christ? If you knew the Book of Mormon was true, would you accept the truths of the restoration and join yourself with the saints? Do you sincerely want to know? Would you then humble yourself and repent of all your sins? Would you then enter the water's of baptism and covenant to take his name upon you, keep his commandments and follow Christ? Is your intent real that if such were revealed you would follow?

If so, the promise is clear. Read the book of Mormon and then test the promise given by God.

Moroni 10:4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

I have and I know by the power of God that the book of Mormon is true. I likewise know that Joseph Smith truly was a prophet of God and that this Church is still lead by our Savior Jesus Christ and is his Church.

"No wicked man could write such a book as this; and no good man would write it unless it were true and he were commanded of God to do so.”
