StosRob Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but reading several of the posts made me think of a few couples in my ward. They are great people, but they have no children. They have wanted children, but they were never blessed with any. They are in their 40's now and they just don't think it is going to happen to them. I have seen them in their callings and they have worked in primary and YW/YM and they treat all of the children like they are their own. Are there any couples in your ward (or possibly stake) like that? Also, one other thing I was thinking about. Just maybe the men are apprehensive because you are single so, you may want to make a plea in RS sometime when it's pretty full let all of the sisters know your situation. Just come straight out and let everyone know your son needs a father figure. Tell them to give you a call or email after they have thought about it. I also hope things work out with your Bishop. Please post back when you talk to him. Quote
Guest Emma Hale Smith Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 <div class='quotemain'>Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Aspergers a person who half of the time acts autistic and half the time doesent? i think i watched a video about it on youtube but im not sure if its correct. I heard its harder then being autistic because allot of the time people cant tell someone with aspergers has a disorder. . . . . Exactly! This is what I struggle with on a daily basis...people judge ME as a mom because they do not see my son's dissorder! You have to get to know my son to see his autism!I was once involved in some research about how the church responded to the needs of people with disabilities. If the disability was an obvious, physical one, 100 percent of the people I interviewed had positive accommodations by the ward.It was the invisible disabilities where the accommodations were not met. It was very difficultt to educate the ward members, including the bishopric, about, for example, chronic pain, mental illness, brain trauma and severe sensitivity to scents. People with these disabilities were not believed, or their disabilities were demeaned, i.e., members would insist the disabilities weren't really that bad. I think this is an area the church will soon be addressing from church headquarters (that was the reason for the research.) It's really a matter of educating those with stewardship about the realities of invisible disabilities, and the church is reaching out, making an effort to learn about them and how to best accommodate it members about them, and with them. Guest Yediyd Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I have personally experienced this, I have fibromyalsia...It is not an obvious disorder...I don't want to speak bad about my leaders so , I will leave it with that. I AM glad to hear that the church is looking into this. Quote

I am in awe of you that you are taking care of children, one who has a behavioral disability, while at the same time debilitated by your own physical pain and bone-crushing fatigue, which NO ONE understands!I am officially disabled and often bedriidden-that's why I post so much.My heart goes out to you. I hope you get sufficient medical care.I really don't know how you do it.Emma Quote

I have been looking for something that I can do. I'm smart, and I have a good telephone voice...so I've been looking into telecomunications.Oh, and why do you think I post so much? Also, I need this...I have very little support and less fellowship. I LOVE this site and am very fond of many people that I have met up here. Quote
