vinny15 Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Well I read part of a book called "God is Not Great" It was interesting, but the research wasnt done well. He spoke about the lds church, but he missed many things. He spoke on the recism in the church , but didnt speak on one of the first white men to refute racism.. Brigham young. He said "....men will be called to judgment for the way they have treated the negro." Young, Brigham. Journal of Discourses Vol. 10 page 250. Orson Pratt, 42, Islington, 1856 He spoke on Joseph Smith and he believes Joseph ad libbed the whole book of mormon right off the top of his head. I thought he was gonna refute that theory because he spoke on the lost book of lehi. If joseph smith had written the book beforehand and was just reading off of a script than he wouldve been able to remake the book of lehi. Logically and it wouldve went off allot better. Has anybody read this book and if they have do you agree with my little assesment of it? By the eay I believe in God. IM jsut trying to get ready for my mission by looking at the view points of atheists and anti-mormons alike. Oh and I love the mormon church lol. Quote

Im leaning toward that being either a remake or the old manuscript messed with ALOT, but what does that have to do with what I said. I said that he believes the book of mormon was ad libbed. So the book of lehi couldnt be remaid. Its impossible that it was ad-libbed!Jason you honestly scare me bud. but I respect some of your opinions. Key word "some". Quote

He contradicts to much, he also claims that the church leaders are leading us the wrong way. Going against what joesph smith had taught, but claiming to be a follower.I feel bad for him. Quote
Jason Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Hey Jason...can I come camp out in your library for about a year or two? You'll need four years, and wait until I get my new bookshelves this fall. Mr Nemelka is an absolute nut job... That's what they said about Joseph Smith. That's also what they say about Art Bulla, and the Parawan Prophet guy. (That last guy is my favorite psuedo-Mormon!) CrimsonKairos Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Thanks Jason, I needed a laugh. Reading that guy's "How I Got the Gold Plates" section reminded me of what I would have written when I was 12. B) Quote

CrimsonKairos Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Yeah, reminds me of what a 15yr old wrote about seeing god. Pretty funny stuff, huh?The difference being this guy is clumsily copying Joseph Smith's account.Anyone can imitate. Quote
Jason Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 It didn't seem similar at all CK. Where are the similarities you are pointing out? Quote
vinny15 Posted June 21, 2007 Author Report Posted June 21, 2007 It didn't seem similar at all CK. Where are the similarities you are pointing out?Jason the book of Lehi you read can very well be the book of Lehi, but messed with and edited a lot. What they are talking about is the Sealed portion. Several parts of the SP is plagiarised from the BoM. Of coarse that doesn't prove it wrong because the BoM quotes bible scripture, but he doesn't quote it he uses it.Now with the Book of Lehi there are quite a few problems with it because it goes against the BoM in aspects including Lehi's lineage. Lehis lineage is quite well hidden in the BoM and many dont know it. The BoL claims Ephraim while the BoM clams Manasseh http://www.fairwiki.org/index.php/Christopher_Marc_Nemelka Quote
Jason Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 We are talking about the account of receiving the book of lehi, not the book's contents. Quote
