mebear Posted October 7, 2007 Report Posted October 7, 2007 19 For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father. Why are both submissive and willing to submit listed here? Is there a difference? Is the second listing merely giving us the level to which we must be willing to submit? I would love to find a definitive answer for this, (with a source, please)Thanks MEBear Quote
MorningStar Posted October 7, 2007 Report Posted October 7, 2007 It could be that "willing to submit" means submitting because you want to and not because you have to. :) I don't have a source, but I'll look for one. Quote
Sheelah Posted October 7, 2007 Report Posted October 7, 2007 In an article by Neal Maxwell, Willing to Submit he says:One of Jesus’ prophets delineated—with submissiveness thrice stipulated—how a disciple can become “as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.” (Mosiah 3:19.)To me he's saying it was repeated 3 different times to emphasize how importance this concept is. As Elder Maxwell points out, this one concept can be a big stumbling block to many otherwise good people. Quote
