  1. I think through history there have been many "secrect combinations". Any organization that says, "keep our secret or you die" or anything similar is a secret combination. Organized crime is (or so I understand) pretty much that way. I've heard that the KKK is like that, also. Probably there are other racist groups that are very similar in structure. Fact is, in every time period I expect there has been some group somewhere that says "we are getting together for the purpose of _____________ (fill in the blank, money, racial purity, power, creative a better world by putting ourselves in charge, etc) and you can be a part of it. Just swear on your life you will never tell anyone what you are about to learn." and then if the hapless new member refuses to swear, or swears and renegs on it, the other members make sure his oath is effective by administering hte death part themselves. There are all kinds of rumors of groups like that in the medieval period.
  2. I check Dressed in White. They are 100% cotton.
  3. I was a youth when the Seattle temple was built, so we went to Oakland for my first couple temple trips. I remember particularly one year when we sat on the lawn after doing baptisms and had a testimony meeting. It was one of the most spiritual events I have ever attended. The grounds there are very beautiful. I particularly remember the mural.
  4. Hi! and welcome! I do know where NZ is. I've been reading about your country since I was about 10. I've wanted to visit there for a long time. And I like Maori designs. Anyway, welcome to the group.
  5. 10 out of 10. But I think I cheated. I followed the counsel given yesterday and began studying with the Preach My Gospel manual (which I happened to have at home) and the first activity suggests studying the tree of life vision.
  6. Thanks, Sheelah. I just found that article. It's potent.
  7. We're up the coast more. Grays Harbor. Clark County is nice. My folks are just outside Portland.
  8. 19 For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father. Why are both submissive and willing to submit listed here? Is there a difference? Is the second listing merely giving us the level to which we must be willing to submit? I would love to find a definitive answer for this, (with a source, please) Thanks MEBear
  9. Hi, I live in Washington State (practically on the beach, the ocean lulls me to sleep at night), I am married, no children, and I like to read, write, and do arithmetic. Seriously, I read a lot (currently in the middle of the Jack Ryan novels, I also read mystery, sci fi, clean romance, and just about everything else I find), and I write. I also like math puzzles. Call me a renaissance woman. I also like high tech and low tech and have a hard time deciding if I should spend money on new software or spinning wheels, butter churns and so on.
