Washington DC area Saints!...

Hello!

My wife, new son and I are currently living in Cincinnati but are going to be relocating to DC early 2009. We are highly active members of the church and are looking for a little real estate advice.

I am going to be attending George Washington University but I know nothing about the area. And as a student, I am, of course, going to be on a heavy budget. I was wondering if there are any members out there in the greater DC area renting out their basements or perhaps any missionary couples leaving soon who need a trustworthy couple to watch their home.

Other than that, any advice on a safe neighborhood with a good ward would be greatly appreciated. What types of apartments are available and what is a good price to pay? Is there anywhere else on the internet that caters to members asking questions like mine? Any discussion forums where I can meet up with other members who may have a place to stay? Any advice around this topic would be great!

Thanks!

Jordan

I serve my mission there 10 years ago and the GW area was my last area. If it hasn't changed too much you'll be in the DC branch and meet in the Chevy Chase chapel. I think they realigned the district, but you probably meet in the same building.

I hope that helps.

thanks, that's good to know. So that area only has a branch? We don't neccissarily have to live right by the college but it would be nice to not have to drive my car. What are people's opinions about DC vs. Maryland vs. Virginia?

Anyone else have ideas about where we can live?

I work downtown and live in Virginia. The Arlington area is nice and you can find some reasonably priced apartments. I'm in Crystal City, right above a metro stop.. most 1-2 bedrooms in my area go for about 1300-2000 a month. Check craigslist you might find something there:

craigslist: washington, DC classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events
