Uh oh!... is someone *cough SF* getting disfellowshipped?

There could have been any number of reasons the Lord wanted the sons of god to refrain from the daughters of men. Perhaps the giant size of their offspring was a genetic mutation that while appeared impressive held many underlying medical issues, much like those of us living today who are over the 7'5'' mark? An example of this thinking would be the washing of hands by the Israelites before eating. To them it was just a religious ordinance but we with our modern knowledge also know that washing hands prevents the spread of germs and viruses. Perhaps the washing hands ordered by the Lord had a dual purpose? Perhaps the reason he wanted to keep the sons of god fom the daughters of men was an unknown medical condition? After all the brother of Goliath had too many fingers and toes. But one thing is for sure, a wave of angels were not allowed to invade the world of our probation and commit the greatest sin next to the shedding of innocent blood with those mortal women who had kept their first estate and were in the midst of their probation. Not even Satan and his angels has the ability to do that and Satan is the "prince of this world".

This is what my late uncle Hugh Nibly said about this. The "sons of god" refers to the rightious linage of Seth, son of Adam. The "daughters of men" referes to the line of the unrightious Cain. No angles popping human cherries and no half angel men (Nephilem) running around. That concept was invented by the roman church and the darkness of lack of understanding since there was a period of no priesthood upon the earth. Hope it clears it up for ya!

"That was the true light, which enlightens every man coming into the world." (John 1:9) God has given to every person a light to guide his way. This light shines in good people and bad people, in people of all religions and people who have no religious belief, in people who feel they are saved and in those who feel they are lost. Nobody is ever so lost as not to have a glimmer of light. It is always close at hand. Even in the darkest and most confusing situation, there is a right way to go, and the light will show it. The light shows us what is right and what is wrong. It doesn't depend on what we may have been taught by other people, or read in books, or figured out according to some philosophy or plan we might have. When we have light, we can just see that some actions are right, or wrong. For instance, we can see that we ought not to tell a lie, even though our minds might come up with all sorts of plausible excuses for lying. The light is pure. Its home is in the conscience and not in the seat of emotion. It comes from above and is called the light of truth, or the light of Christ. Morality comes through our relation to our creator. It has nothing to do with organized religion. Its built in like a duck knowing how to swim. However, we can dull it and numb it and ignore it

Your "friend" has obeyed the Lord's command to confess his sins. If what ever he did deeded to be told to the bishop, then the SP will do so. Your friend is in the clear since he has repented to the Lord and also done as commanded and confessed to the bishop and SP. Its all good.

had a catholic nun tell me that people who are cremated cant be resurrected cause their bodies were too destroyed...I was like "What about all those saints burned at the stake? My opinion is burrial, but thats because I like to have something and a place to visit to remember. An urn just wouldnt be the same. And only like 65% of the body is actually ashed...the rest is just tossed in bio-trash.

Sharia law -- should we have it in the USA?
Adeipho replied to Fiannan's topic in General Discussion
About to have it in the U.K.?!? How about you DO have it in the U.K. A Muslim who observes and claims Sharia law is CURRENTLY allowed to have multiple wives and can recieve government aid to support each wife and their children. We'll have it here soon enough, just like we're letting the homosexuals have their power puff princess weddings in California. ITS ALL OVER PEOPLE! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WE DONT HAVE A PRAYER..... Seriously though, its not getting better until it gets BAD BAD BAD -
I enjoy LDS PC the best . For example, when you're talking about someone between sacrement and sunday school and say they're ugly and fat and oozing with zits....and somone asks you to describe that person, or they just come up in the conversation, the Mormon PC thing to say is " Awe isnt she 'such a sweet spirit'".

The history of the cross symbol in Christianity Early depictions on Jesus usually showed Jesus in the form of a shepherd carrying a lamb. Tertullian (140-230 CE), a Montanist heretic, commented in his essay De Corona: "At every forward step and movement, at every going in and out, when we put on our our clothes and shoes, when we bathe, when we sit at table, when we light the lamps, on couch, on seat, in all the ordinary actions of daily life, we trace upon the forehead the sign." This might be an early reference to individuals tracing the sign of the cross on their body. The use of the cross as a symbol was condemned by at least one church father of the 3rd century CE because of its Pagan origins. The first appearance of a cross in Christian art is on a Vatican sarcophagus from the mid-5th Century. 11 It was a Greek cross with equal-length arms. Jesus' body was not shown. The first crucifixion scenes didn't appear in Christian art until the 7th century CE. The original cross symbol was in the form of a Tau Cross. It was so named because it looked like the letter "tau", or our letter "T". One author speculates that the Church may have copied the symbol from the Pagan Druids who made crosses in this form to represent the Thau (god). 7 They joined two limbs from oak trees. The Tau cross became associated with St. Philip who was allegedly crucified on such a cross in Phrygia. May Day, a major Druidic seasonal day of celebration, became St. Philip's Day. Later in Christian history, the Tau Cross became the Roman Cross that we are familiar with today. The shape of the original crucifixion device is a matter for speculation. Sometimes, the Romans executed people on a Tau cross, sometimes on a Roman cross and sometimes on a simple stake. The gospels, which were originally written in Greek, use the word "stauros" to refer to the execution structure. (see Mark 15:21, Mark 15:32, Matthew 27:32, Luke 23:26, John 19:17). This appears as the word "cross" in all but one of the English versions that we have examined. But in reality, the Greek word usually means a vertical pole without a crossbar. The New World Translation, sponsored by the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society, translates the word as "torture stake." 8 Hermann Fulda, author of "The Cross and Crucifixion" is commented that: the description of Jesus' suffering during the last hours of life indicates that he was crucified on a stake rather than a cross. that some of the writings of the early church fathers confirms the use of a pole. that the very earliest depictions of Jesus' crucifixion in Christian art show him on a stake. Acts 5:30 refers to "hanging him on a tree." 1 Peter 2:24 says "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree." Deuteronomy 21:23 stated that a person hung on a tree was be cursed by God. This verse was a major stumbling block that prevented many Jews from accepting Jesus as Messiah. According to author Graydon F. Snyder: "[Today's]....universal use of the sign of the cross makes more poignant the striking lack of crosses in early Christian remains, especially any specific reference to the event on Golgotha. Most scholars now agree that the cross as an artistic reference to the passion event cannot be found prior to the time of Constantine." The pre-Christian history of the cross symbol "From its simplicity of form, the cross has been used both as a religious symbol and as an ornament, from the dawn of man's civilization. Various objects, dating from periods long anterior to the Christian era, have been found, marked with crosses of different designs, in almost every part of the old world." 9 The cross symbol was found in: 10 Scandinavia: The Tau cross symbolized the hammer of the God Thor. Babylon: the cross with a crescent moon was the symbol of their moon deity. Assyria: the corners of the cross represented the four directions in which the sun shines. India: In Hinduism, the vertical shaft represents the higher, celestial states of being; the horizontal bar represents the lower, earthly states. Egypt: The ankh cross (a Tau cross topped by an inverted tear shape) is associated with Maat, their Goddess of Truth. It also represents the sexual union of Isis and Osiris. Europe: The use of a human effigy on a cross in the form of a scarecrow has been used from ancient times. In prehistoric times, a human would be sacrificed and hung on a cross. The sacrifice would later be chopped to pieces; his blood and pieces of flesh were widely distributed and buried to encourage the crop fertility.

Who are you quoting or is it just plagiarize hour?

First of all "religion" existed LONG LONG LONG before and WITHOUT the death of Christ on the cross. This statement tells me that you have much maturing to do and I hope you will take a moment to grow before leaving the church behind. Second, we do not wear a cross as a custom due to our advanced understanding and appriciation for what Christ actually did. He didnt only die on a cross. HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD!!! However, if you want to wear a cross, I say go for it. IF that is how you want to share with the world around you your faith then do it. The Lord will not condemn you for it, and in due time may even show you a better way to show your faith which you find even more satisfying to your heart. I for one hope you will procrastinate leaving the church and have a few more chats with yours truly. As one who has lived in and out of the church, and one who has been to hell and stalked the outer grounds of Heaven, I can tell you that the Church is the true church upon the earth and that Christ is its head. I look foward to your replies. Adeipho

It seems to me that you may feel God the Father is more harsh than Jesus? Just something to keep in mind, the Father is the one who sent His son to suffer and attone for us. Snow has a good point that the OT is more of a history lesson filled with symbols and lessons for us to take from it. And not so amazingly all those lessons and symbols point right at Jesus Christ. The NT on the other hand is more of a direct angle at instructing us and teaching us the gospel of Jesus Christ first by Himself and then through His chosen apostles. Christ is the God of the Old Testiment. After all, ALL gospel testiments are of Christ. Even the Book of Mormon is Another Testiment of Jesus Christ.

Because its supposed to be for LDS.net members and she is not a member so I'd be the only one "invited"

How come no one let me know about this? I'll just go to the Olive Garden here and eat alone and think about you all having a good time in UT. Wish I'd have known I could have made arrangements.

No one seems to recall something very basic; Heavenly Father is the most "educated" being of all and because of this he is also the most creative. But, I understand that when people in this thread say "education" they really mean "the education system". So, we should rephrase the title to "Does the current education system destroy creativity" If used properly education is the key to finding ways to be creative that would have otherwise eluded you.

Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?
Adeipho replied to Hemidakota's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
stuff happens to people for one of the three following reasons: 1. Our choices effect us or others 2. Others' choices effect themself or us 3. Sometimes stuff just happens because thats life and this whole world was designed to test us and so stuff just happens. -
Im sorry you never heard the small voice. I've been there and I've also felt my prayers were not reaching past my own roof top. You have my sympathy

Actually the scripture I gave you, Christ was trying to point out that we are gods and yet we accused Christ of a sin for saying he was the "son" of god. The way I read it is that he was trying to figure out why being the son of god was under attack when in all reality we are all children of god and thus by that very vertue, gods ourselves. Like Irish people attacking a man for saying he is the son of an Irish man. The difference is Christ is the only begotten son of our Father in Heaven. He is set apart and above the rest of us. Just a couple of things that might make a god a god....Knowledge of good and evil, agency, ability to procreate, above all others in their sphere. Do we not know good from evil? Do we not have agency? Can we not have children? Are we not the dominate and most intellegent life on our world? I can not think of any other creatures in this world that share all of these few required traits.

Perhaps you would be intrested to be reminded what the Lord has said concerning this. John Ch. 10 30 I and my Father are one. 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? In other words, we are gods. Jesus said it was so and also pointed out that it was a known idea from the beginning of the law. The offspring of a being is the same as its parent. The children of a god are gods. We know from Christ's own words that we are the sons and daughters of God. John chapter 20 17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. We are the only creatures under heaven that are refered to as children of God because no other creatures are as we are. None so like Him, as ourselves.

This comment strikes me as paculair. Peculiar Pronunciation: \pi-ˈkyül-yər\ Function: adjective Etymology: Middle English peculier, from Latin peculiaris of private property, special, from peculium private property, from pecu cattle; akin to Latin pecus cattle — more at fee Date: 15th century 1: characteristic of only one person, group, or thing : distinctive 2: different from the usual or normal: a: special, particular b: odd, curious c: eccentric, queer synonyms see characteristic, strange The reason it strikes me as strange is because Chelsea referes to the ones she dated as "kids" when she herself is presumibly 15. Also, why the concern for legal bounderies? Why would a 15 year old worry about legal issues of making out with other 15 or 16 year olds? I dont think the intelligent readers of my comment really need me to list the possible "whys", but they are not that many in number but some "whys" could be quite serious. The rest of you cavemen can just send me a message and I might tell you what Im hinting at.

Its true what you say. When we are injured mom wipes our dirty cheeks with her spit laced napkin and askes "Aww poor baby are you ok?" While all we get from dad is "Ah, walk it off you'll be fine. Oh, and could you ask your mom what she's making for dinner"
