  1. Thanks bytor, I've signed up for the Daily, Church History, and Single Adult versions. :)
  2. Thanks HiJolly, I like that but I was thinking of something a little more scripture-oriented. That's one shortcoming of The Upper Room -- it doesn't recognize the rest of the Standard Works. :)
  3. For many years now, I've been reading The Upper Room every day -- here is an example of what it contains: Upper Room | Devotional I enjoy these very much, but now I'm looking for something similar from an LDS perspective. Does anyone know of anything like this? TIA
  4. I had to check other -- I've been associated with too many religions in my life! (Not that that's a bad thing.) Baptized Roman Catholic as a baby. Raised as a Methodist starting at the age of 5. Associated myself with the Jehovah's Witnesses at 13 (although I was never baptized). Left the Witnesses when I turned 18 and started going to the Methodist church again, although I disagreed with a lot of their doctrine by then. The nice thing about the Methodist faith is that for the most part they are very tolerant and open-minded to different beliefs. Was baptized LDS at 25 and that's where I intend to stay. :)
  5. Thanks dalepres, I've bookmarked that site. :)
  6. Hmm... I might post about that one day. I'll have to think about it.Where would one post such a thing here?
  7. Are there any good resources for getting into amateur radio? I've always had a fascination with shortwave, and I've listened to ham operators with some of my SSB-capable radios. This would be a very useful outgrowth of that hobby.
  8. Would you mind posting your thoughts on that when you get it?
  9. I voted no; I do own a .22 rifle and a shotgun (for hunting) but I store them at my parent's house. I've been considering getting a pistol to keep at my apartment but I still haven't made up my mind about that. Too many angles to think about.
  10. Don't worry, I have no idea what this "football pickum thing" is anyway.
  11. Thanks! Oddly enough I first heard the term Deist in a JW talk, not long after I'd become disenchanted with the religion. The speaker explained a Deist's concept of God as a watchmaker that creates a watch and then walks off to leave it ticking away by itself. So, a Deist (as I understand the term anyway) is someone who believes in God and also believes that God created the universe and everything in it. At this point God just sits back to watch what happens. At least that's how I imagined things at the time.
  12. I am still fairly new to the Church, been a member for just about a year now. Previous to becoming a Mormon I was a Methodist, a Jehovah's Witness, and a Deist who slowly worked my way back to Christianity. I've been lurking for a few months, and I'm looking forward to joining in on all the interesting discussions you have going on here. :)
