  1. Ok still more questions. Ok so the chapel and bishop are booked, we have the cultural hall for a buffet after wards.

    Here are my questions....

    1. On shopping for a dress is it appropriate to get one that I can also wear to the temple at a later time to be sealed/temple visits

    2. What is the standard set up for a LDS legal wedding. So far guessing open with prayer, hymn,...something and marriage mixed in ...close with prayer

    3. Ideas for an inexpensive decorations for the reception.

  2. You first need to decide if you want a rather large or small affair. The larger, the more complicated. I personally think a small wedding with close friends and family is best. Consider the feeling that would be there instead of the pomp and expense. you could have it at a special natural area that has meaning, or in someone's home. Ask a good friend to be mistress of ceremonies. you could work on a simple menu, then have her ask your family to bring things on that menu. (I'm assuming you want to keep cost down) handmade invitations on beautiful paper are much nicer and more personal than the expensive printed type. A wedding is for the couple to express their love and devotion for each other before witnesses. You will enjoy it more this way and you will be less stressed out and more likely to have a joyous day. Also, if you are going to spend any money at all, consider a professional photographer. You can find them for a wedding of this type for around $600.00. This may sound like a lot, but it's really inexpensive compared to what they charge for a full blown 4 hour shindig.

Then on your anniversary, go to be sealed in the temple.

We are looking at really small...about 20 people tops. thank your for your ideas I love them

  3. Congrats to you....just ask your Bishop if he is available to perform wedding on the day you selected....keep this in mind...if you use the chapel at church...you won't be able to take pictues or video tape...if you use another room in the church or a home you can take all you want.

If we get married at church can pictures be taken outside?

  4. So I have been engaged to a wonderful man for a while and I fell away from the church so we have been living in the same house. We have altered our living arrangements now due to me going back to church and Mike also started to speak with the missionaries. After church today we decided that we have been engaged long enough and to keep with the gospel we are going to get married. We have worked it out with us getting married on the 21st (paychecks etc for license) but would love some ideas on how to have a very inexpensive wedding. Also What steps to we need to go through to have the bishop marry us etc. Any suggestions would be amazing.

    Thank you

  5. sakuragirl, what is your opinion on the above article?

I fear you may have chosen to take me out of context....the term i chose was Pity

To feel pity or compassion for; to have sympathy with; to compassionate; to commiserate; to have tender feelings toward (any one).

Pity is a form of compassion and I also said that whatever brings people closer to HF. I feel it in the same way that if you saw anyone go without a knowledgeor a substance that you would wish them to have it. I have experienced many religions from being raised Catholic, to looking at Wicca, Agnostic and even researched Buddha. I accept that people have the opportunity to worship as and how they please, however I am entitled to feel for those that have not had opportunities and wish for them to experience all that can be offered. I also did not state that people did not have choices only that I found things to be different. When someone speaks in the 1st person they are expressing their personal beliefs and not those for others. I should ask how you feel about the article?

  6. Maxel, if I'm not mistaken, the OP did suggest that the 16/17 points were signs of the true church, allegedly offered originally by someone who had scientifically studied the Bible to come up with core esseentials Ifficiencies and oddities. . It is on that ground that we non-members see d a leader of your church said, "Here are 17 of our most basic teachings, and some references to them, found in the Bible..." my eyebrows would not have raised much at all.

I originally opened the post based on remembering a story told to me by the missionaries when I was investigating. I was happy to get the answers that allowed me to find the points on line. When I read the scriptures listed in the bible I can see how it lends it self to the LDS church. I can also see how it 'cancels' out other religions. A lot of these points were reasons I had issues with other Christian Churches growing up, I just didn't realize it at that time.

It is on that ground that we non-members see deficiencies and oddities.

It is on these same grounds that I find other religions to be factious and I pity those in that place, at the same place I am happy to see people makes steps to HF though what ever means they have

    John 10

11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

12 He who is a hireling and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.

13 He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep.

As an example, this clearly tells me that if someone is paid to be a Shepard instead of from the heart that the job will not be done well and the wolf (Satan) will tempt and succeed. On this basis, when someone gives part of themselves to the church without accepting physical reward (Spiritual Rewards are completely different) the lord has the ability to be more present. So in the same breath, those that are paid to preach are not doing the Lords work at all.

  7. Qtpie, I have not voiced an opinion in your struggle as it has pained me to think of what you are going through. I cannot say I understand how you feel as I have never personally been through this. What I can tell you is that it is obvious through your posts that YOU DO have the strength, courage and Commitment to your self and the spirit to be strong through this ordeal. That you can and will do what is right for you because you deserve it and you deserve to be happy. You also deserve someone who is willing to love you for you and see the beauty and wonder that is you. I have to agree with many of these posts here, this man does not deserve you and to be honest does not seem even remotely good enough for you. You are in my prayers and hopes for you to find happiness.

  8. A lawyer and a blonde are sitting next to each other on a long flight from LA to NY. The lawyer leans over to her and asks if she would like to play a fun game. The blonde just wants to take a nap, so she politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks.

The lawyer persists and explains that the game is really easy and a lot of fun. He explains" I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5, and vice-versa." Again, she politely declines and tries to get some sleep.

The lawyer, now somewhat agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500," figuring that since she is a blonde that he will easily win the match. This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring that there will be no end to this torment unless she plays, agrees to the game.

The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from the earth to the moon?" The blonde doesn't say a word, reaches in to her purse, pulls out a five dollar bill and hands it to the lawyer. Now, it's the blonde's turn.

She asks the lawyer: "What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?" The lawyer looks at her with a puzzled look. He takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references. He taps into the Air phone with his modem and searches the Net and the Library of Congress.

Frustrated, he sends E-mails to all his coworkers and friends he knows. After over an hour, he wakes the blonde and hands her $500. The blonde politely takes the $500 and turns away to get back to sleep.

The lawyer, who is more than a little miffed, wakes the blonde and asks, "Well, so what IS the answer!?" Without a word, the blonde reaches into her purse, hands the lawyer $5, and goes back to sleep!

  9. Lovers of the English language might enjoy this....

How do non-natives ever learn all the nuances of English???

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that word is 'UP.'

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ?

At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report?

We call UP our friends and we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car.

At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses.

To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special. And this up is confusing:

A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP.

We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP !

To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4 of the page and can add UP ..

If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP , you may wind UP with a hundred or more.

When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP . When it rains, it wets UP the earth.

When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP .

One could go on & on, but I'll wrap it UP for now my time is UP , so ....

    Time to shush UP .....!

    Oh...one more thing:!

What is the first thing you do in the morning & the last thing you do at night?

    U P !!!

  10. This is the true story of George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi, who was going to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the shed. George opened the door to go turn off the light but saw there were people in the shed in the process of stealing things.

He immediately phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and George said no and explained the situation. Then they explained that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be there when available.

George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all."

Then he hung up. Within five minutes three squad cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up. Of course, the police caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

  11. Yesterday was the 1st time I went back to church in a long time and hearing the children in the sacrament meeting was hard, i went through a range of emotions from thinking how wonderful they were all too why cant these parents control their kids.

You know what it then hit me, these are all children of God and I need to smile at them and accept them for who they are, beautiful sons and daughters. maybe thats what I needed, to know it was ok, and I cant really describe the peace I felt afterwards I even played with a little girl in RS, maybe its going to be ok and thats what I came out with.

  12. 42 Evidences of the True Church

This list is from a book called The Greatest Quest by Blaine and Brenton Yorgason (Deseret Book Company). This novel describes the search by five college students to find the one true Church of Jesus Christ. At the end of this book, the authors combine their research with the work of Henry Whiffen who also developed a list. Together these gave a total of 42 points. In this list each point has been documented with scriptural references.

The Godhead consists of three separate and distinct beings - God the Father, his Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.

    Hebrews 1:6-7

Jesus Christ , as revealed in the New Testament, is Jehovah, God of the Old Testament.

    Ezekiel 37:15-17

    Isaiah 29:18

  13. 11. The true church must teach that God and Jesus have bodies of flesh and bone (Luke 23:36-39; Acts 1:9-11; Heb 1:1-3)

Luke talks about Christ being crucified, Acts talks about Jesus ascending into the heavens and Hebrews fulfills God's proclamation in Ps 110:1. How do these verses show that God the Father has a body of flesh and bones?

    M.

I have found another verse for you Luke 24:39

'Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself:"Handle me, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.'
