From what I've read, this is more of a compromise than a broken promise, but this is still suspicious.

The political spectrum is all relative to your position on it.

I'd talk with whatever religious leader you feel comfortable with; if not your bishop, perhaps your stake president, stake patriarch, favorite gospel teacher, parents, etc. What you need is counsel given based on your exact scenario, which only somebody who knows you can give well. A priesthood blessing couldn't hurt either. You don't even have to be specific, you can just ask for a general priesthood blessing from the same people, and I'm sure they'd be willing to do so.

I think this depend on whether you have a moral problem with doing so. Other LDS members who may work in restaurants may not have moral problems with serving alcohol, and others in different jobs may, but this decision seems like one you (and everybody else individually) should make entirely on your own, using your own judgment. Sorta like the question of whether or not you want to eat or drink foods that contain caffeine.

I'm currently majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Mathematics. But... that can change.

Perhaps it is referring to the meta-goal of not financially exploiting your families? Higher law and all that.

Like Uchtdorf and Ballard, I could feel nothing but inspiration from the inaugural ceremony. I suppose our reactions to this event depended on the frame of mind we came into it with. I personally had to record it as I was in Book of Mormon class during the inauguration, and then watched it after the campus devotional... I felt very spiritual. Perhaps that's why?

Hello, I'm a 19 year old guy who is currently studying at Brigham Young University. So as to make this more meaningful than an "lol a/s/l?" post, I'll tell you a bit about why I came here. I plan on serving a mission in about 3 1/2 months, and I was looking for a good online community to share experiences with people in a similar situation. Eitheir by divine guidance or dumb luck (what gave it away? the url, perhaps?), I found myself here. Hopefully this ends up being what I'm looking for, but first impressions are good. So, Hello! :)
