  1. Here's one member's answer: http://www.jefflindsay.com/LDSFAQ/love.shtml#heaven BTW--Good to see you again, Christos.
  2. No, the LDS sisters in my former ward aren't depressed anymore...cause they're all on Prozac! LOL Sharing that quote in no way minimizes the fact that there is depression in women in the Church. One would hope that we might have a lower prevalence of depression. But that is not the case. We still have work to do in order to get that number significantly lower than the general population.
  3. ...and/or that he was very hairy!
  4. O.K. I've got one. This one has even been casually alluded to and directly mentioned here in this forum as if it were some commonly known and established fact. I figured this might be a good one to mention. And it is: You can read the full address by Dr. Williams here.
  5. In which case, I would say it must have morphed into a discussion, at some point. I don't mean to play semantics. I really think that some good can come of this simple change. While I do concede that the word debate does not solely refer to nasty exchanges between individuals who have absolutely no chance of changing their own or the opposing side's mind, I believe that viewing these dialogues under the umbrella of the word "discussion" helps keep those conversing as far from that as possible. By consistently doing that, we will be continually reminded that the purpose of these exchanges are for understanding each other better, not for changing minds to be molded after our own. Sometimes that still can result in minds being changed or opinions modified. In fact, I would submit that it has that effect much more often than exchanges where the participants view it as a "debate". But, that's just me. I'm not trying to convince anyone...
  6. Thank you. And, yes, I agree. Discussions certainly do not have to be boring, and we will learn much more from each other if we are in that mindset as opposed to a debating mindset.Debates are for the birds and (presidential elections :) ). Either way, they don't really change any minds--just a bunch of hot air.
  7. Certainly the teller of the story at any given time will tend to focus more or less on various facets to the story, and that could be for artistic license or because of what they choose to emphasize. So, I guess I will say that I agree with your comment. :) No offense here, either. You're alright. Perhaps a little unorthodox, but then that's your name. jk
  8. I've been LDS all my life, and the "traditional story" I've always been told is the same one that is told at the Carthage Jail Visitors Center. It includes his "self-defense" and defense of his bretheren. No active LDS I know (and I know MANY) has a problem with it. The only time I've heard it brought up as a supposed contradiction to the "going like a lamb" comment has been by anti's. Like Ben said, though, he went like a lamb in the sense that he had the means to resist arrest indefinitely. The Nauvoo militia, which he commanded, was a formidable force, not to mention any number of individual members who would have had the means and know-how to help them escape. And, not to mention the fact that calling the security level at Carthage Jail "minimum" would be an understatement. But that's just me. :)
  9. Oh, and one more thought...Let's take Covey's advice and "seek first to understand, then to be understood". That would go a LONG way toward a more peaceful forum.
  10. Actually, I would suggest the best way to accomplish this is to stop calling them "debates". By calling them "discussions" instead (and keeping that difference in mind), things will be less likely to turn ugly. It's not a debate forum, it's a discussion forum. Perhaps there is a fine line there, but one side is beautiful and uplifting, the other...not so much...
  11. Generally, I agree with you. I have absolutely nobody on my ignore list at other sites that I visit; although, I certainly could justify one or two. Those I choose to ignore here are of the subtle type. They (generally) don't cross the line, but boy do they test the limits in just about every post. And I just got tired of it. I'm not saying everyone has to use it, but it is there to block out the obnoxious posters (no matter how subtle they are). If someone on my ignore list says something worthwhile, it is likely that someone else (not on my ignore list) will quote it.
  12. Thank you for sharing this with us. I think there is a lesson to be learned here. Definitely worth pondering and carefully weighing with other great lessons taught.Come back anytime, dontagreeljefe.
  13. ...Afterall, that's what the ignore feature is for, and boy am I making use of it!
  14. Let's hope it does. I'm getting dizzy! BTW--Who does "the Oscar go" to? (in your sig line)
  15. Whom are you addressing here? Soulsearcher?
  16. Makes you wonder if it's not just an accident, doesn't it?
  17. AHEM!! >cough!cough!< Sorry. Forget I said that. Carry on! PostCount = PostCount + 1
  18. NOW? O.K. Ready..., set..., go!
  19. The way I understand the rules of this board is that it is all supposed to be a "contention-free" area with the exception of the Open Discussion Forum. But, that's just the way I interpret it, I guess.(I was going to quote a few lines from the rules, but it would have ended up being just about the whole thing...)
  20. Kinda sounds like it's that last part I quoted (and bolded) that you can't accept. Luckily, that's not part of Christ's Gospel.Christ's Gospel is perfect. Keep studying, pondering, and praying. Everything will make sense as you get more pieces of the puzzle and put them together. I was surprised to see you again, Christos. When I read your post about chosing Greek Orthodoxy, it sounded like a "farewell" to me. Not that I blame you. This Mormon bug can be a tough one to kick for some reason
  21. On another board I frequent, we call exchanges like this "post count padding".
  22. I hear ya! Boy, do I hear ya! Ask Heather about my last few PM's to her addressing the very issues you bring up.I'm already "packed"--since last week, actually. If BenRaines and Palerider follow suit, I'll be on the next train outta here! (Won't say where I'm going...Don't want the troll(s) to follow...)
