  1. I was not familiar with any place like that. We were still new in the country when I was there and we were still try to get our bearings on who was who and what the various organizations in the country were doing. Serving a mission there was a wonderful experience. I'm sure your son will have a wonderful and fulfilling time no matter where he serves.
  2. Well officially the revelation to the church concerning polygamy was given in 1843 though Joseph Smith was aware of the doctrine for some years previous to that. It ended in 1890 due to persecution by the Government in accordance to the principle revealed in Doctrine and Covenants 124:49
  3. Hey Kawazu I'll get it to you, I have it at home.
  4. The creator of the Scientific Method even said that his method could not be used to explore the nature of the God because it did not have the necessary faculties.
  5. Good quote! We can also reference 1 Nephi 17:45. Laman and Lemuel were "past feeling" and so they could not recieve revelation from God save by more direct and overt methods.
  6. The Holy Ghost's influence is in as many places as needed, think of it like the light of the sun can be in many places but there is only one sun. Many references to holy spirit, spirit of truth, etc. are referring to the Holy Ghost.
  7. Yes God has an Immortal Glorified body and the ressurection is vital so we can be with God.
  8. Hi bohigirlsmiles; Thank you for telling me about this site. :) Well the first answer to you question is found in the first Article of Faith and in Doctrine and Covenants 130:22 So the Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead and is a personage of Spirit. He is an actual person with a specific mission. The Scriptures explain the part of his mission that you are experiencing. One of the Holy Ghosts roles is to be a revelator; to testify to us and teach us, spirit to spirit, what is true. This is a role of the Holy Ghost that everyone no matter their beliefs or creeds can experience if they open themselves to it. For each of us this experience is different. The most powerful witness of God's existence is the communication of the Holy Ghost.
  9. I enjoyed that story as well. :) Apparently enough people convinced Athanasius and crew to accept a watered down creed that they could agree to as well so that there could be a united front against Arianism. After the council if any Bishop too strongly supported Athanasius' teachings these same people did what they could to get rid of them. I do find it interesting that Eusebius is condenmed for supporting a Heresy that he himself taught against. Anyone know where I can find some copies or Origen's writings? I have an online copy but it is incomplete and difficult (visually) to read.
  10. He's one the few people that when he's on CNN I don't mind listening to him.
  11. Which are your favourite?
  12. Interesting point, often ideas take hold in an individual because other's around them accept it. see Alma 30:53 It is possible that Laman may have come around if his ideas had been left unsupported.
  13. Hello Read and good books lately? :)
  14. When reading Talmage's book The Great Apostasy I noticed that one of the sources he referred to often was Eusebuis' book Ecclesiatical History written shortly after AD 300. I was so intrigued that I got a copy of it myself and studied it and found it very useful in not only understanding the apostasy but also scriptural history and it was enlightening to see this early Christian's understanding of the Gospel and see that he himself wasn't very far off. I definitely liked him better than Augustine who wrote around AD 400 and sounds like greek philosophy loosely supported with scripture. I'm wondering if anyone else has delved into early Christian writings and found anything of worth in them as well?
  15. Yes it was Bhodigirlsmiles she and I met on the site Theology online. She definitely deserves every good word we can give. :)
  16. thank you for your welcomes :) When I have time (maybe tonight) I'll put more about myself on my profile page.
  17. Hello everyone; I was actually told about this site by a Buddhist friend that I talk with at another site. I'll probably poke around from time to time to see what is happening and hopefully participate a little bit. About me: I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada and I'm 31 and married. I'm a returned missionary I served in the Cambodia Phnom Penh Mission. I've been a member all my life, my parents are converts and the remainder of my family are non-members. I was just called as the sunday school president of our ward.
