  1. Torture is still wrong. From a certain perspective, one could "justify" just about anything, but that doesn't make it right. I applaud President Obama for his efforts to do what is right, despite criticism. HEP
  2. This article by Gerald Jones, in the August 1972 Ensign, is called "The Gospel and Animals," and you can read it online here: LDS.org - Ensign Article - The Gospel and Animals Jones quotes a number of scriptures (the Bible is big on kindness to animals), and a number of modern-day prophets on the subject. Hope this is helpful! HEP
  3. The way I look at it, the more mental gymnastics it takes to justify doing something, the less likely it is to be right. HEP
  4. Thanks for telling me about the avatar--think it's fixed, now.Looks like I've also been "demoted" to "junior member!" HEP
  5. Howdy, folks! Many of you know me already from my posts, but my account was accidentally deleted, so I had to reopen it. Just thought I'd take the opportunity to reintroduce myself and explain my user name and avatar. "HEthePrimate" refers both to the animals and to the Catholic office of primate (from the Latin Primus, "first"), usually held by archbishops in the Western church. The animal in my avatar is, appropriately enough, a primate called a mandrill. The hat and tassels are from the ecclesiastical coat of arms of a Catholic primate. "HE" is an abbreviation of "His Excellency," an honorific title sometimes used when referring to a Catholic primate. However, I'm not Catholic--I'm LDS. Just couldn't resist having a little fun with the word "primate!" (No offense meant to any Catholics here.) Peace. HEP
