12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor. 19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. 20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, 21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee? - Proverbs 22:12, 19-21 If they can somehow interpret a clearly red color, as a blue image, even though the color background is a mix of green and yellow, then they're either on denial, on drugs, drunk, or hallucinating. The fact is that what makes red is not any other color but Green and Yellow because that's the context of Red.

I heard that question posed to a Christian by an atheist/agnostic... the answer wished I've remembe.... Has anyone challenged you with that question? To me seems to be a, "Gotcha!" question crafted just to prove us believers wrong that God can do anything. To that sadly, I'll have to admit that he can't, all because He is omnipotent. I know some atheists I'm sure, will enjoy that answer but it is what it is. After all, in order for God to truly create something he can't carry, He has to weaken himself in order to have any struggle, and then He will create a rock that he can't carry. However, that's not the the only thing he can't do.... He cannot force us to love Him; it is because He loved us so much that he has given us, the free will to choose love... or not. If any Atheist or Agnostic challenges you to answer that question (and if you happened to agree with me), admit that God can't; let them feel smart, because the truth is, they are fools (Psalm 53 Romans 1:22). Then tell them His second limitation; God's love in giving us all, free will. And remember, that it is not so much the lack of evidence that is keeping them from faith, it is really their hearts that stops them. Other wise, they would have opened their hearts to the Holy Spirit.

Not so when you use context which is the background of the verse. That means you're using the verses around it to clearly explain why. There's no way one can twist the background when it is plain to read

I forgot about this one.... The word for Kill "Ratsach," means also to Murder (1). There's a difference between murder and Kill. Soldiers have to Kill or be Killed, as well as to eliminate threats to our country. Some of us had to kill for self preservation or because if we didn't , the assailant would have murdered someone else. Either way... it is, an ending of a life. Nevertheless, Killing in the battlefield is not the same as killing Abel. If you still hold to the use of the word, kill, then why would God give instructions when it comes to War (Deuteronomy 20)? Now why did Moses ordered the killing of men, women, and children? It is because of the sins of the people, they are judged: 4 Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee. - Deuteronomy 9:4 However cruel this may be, this is God's judgment upon a people who will not repent. From the time the Hebrews went into Egypt to the time they've left, was 400 years. From that time span, they could have changed their ways but they have done abominations continuously including infant sacrifices, lewdness, homosexuality and general sinfulness. Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed by their wickedness, why not the nations that forget God? 23 And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them. - Leviticus 20:23 Read chapter 18, and 20, and you'll see the kind of wickedness the Canaanites are guilty of. God reserves the right to judge the nations according to what he sees fit. Our morality can change over the years; we should not judge scripture by our values 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. - Isaiah 55:8 I'm sure someone will post me saying "God says thou shalt not steal, yet God allows plundering...." What He has given, can He not take away (Exodus 19:5)? Now I understand about establishing context... but that's no different than any book you read. Anyone, can take Any book and isolate a sentence alleging that so and so believed in vigilante justice. I think the reason why this seemed to be difficult is because the Bible is a very large book. The background can be as big as 3 chapters to 5 books away; but it is not impossible to find the context if you know the Bible for yourself. There are resources to solve these errors and contradictions. the online site I've given is the very best I've seen; its CARM - Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry. 1. Q-1 No one is barred from Salvation. People of all color, ethnicity, standing, rank, or caste; slave abd free can have that free gift of Salvation with no strings attached. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. - 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Q-2 Not my church that people can be saved and not from any church because the Gospel is so simple that even a Child can believe and be saved. Note, the Gospel IS NOT the Bible, nor is it the four accounts because that their account, telling of the smae message. The Gospel is essentially this: 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: - 1 Corinthians 15:1-5 The necessary key to salvation is a simple child-like faith, trusting, in the Lord Jesus. The initial Faith is, Saving faith. It is Faith, the one time obedience, that saves: 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. - Romans 10:17, 9-10 Q-3 Those who have never heard of the Gospel will have their conscience to judge them. Before Christ, the OT saints haven't heard of the Gospel so they are in their graves, "Asleep" until Christ entered; whoever believes will be following him (John 5:25). It makes sense therefore that even though the Gospel is already introduced 2000 years ago, those who haven't heard will know in death. 14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another) - Romans 2:14-15 Romans 1:18... Evidence around them, even the evidence of the Godhead, they are without excuse Psalm 19:1-4 - 1 ... The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, The Stars in which all star are named and have never changed their meaning according to one who wrote the book "The Witness of the Stars" According to him, the stars were named in order fortelling of the Messiah who was to come. Stars were not meant to be used for indvidual use, thats Astrology; true and original star names talks about Satan symbolized as Scorpius, Jesus as the Lamb, etc. None of the names have been changed. Q-4 The essential doctrines necessary for salvation does not consist in secondary issues such as whether God Predestines, or whether we ought to keep the Sabbath. These secondary issues have divided the churches in europe than America but everyone who loves the Gospel have recognized that what really mattered are only three things: I. Who God is II. Is Jesus God's Son and the Anointed One? III. the Means of Salvation I. Who God is, is very important because there have been many gods, godesses, and demi-gods created not by God or an invisible force but by Man: 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. First, God is only One, single supreme Deity (Deuteronomy 6:4). The God of the Bible is Mono-theistic. That said however, He is a Godhead. While it remains true that God is one, it is clear both in the OT and the NT that not only the Father is God, but the Son also as well as the Holy Spirit. They are all eternal and equal but unique in three distict Persons which is why I believe in the Trinity Second, God is not just loving and Merciful but Just and Holy so therefore, He has to punish sin for what it is (Exodus 34:6-7). Because of Adam's sin, all men are under wrath and all have died (Romans 5:12-21) II. Jesus is the Messiah, and the Son of God 1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. - 1 John 4:1-3 III. The Means of Salvation From our prespective, This doctrine separates Biblical Christianity from all religions because most believe that you have to attain, you have to Merit, earn, follow, live, be faithful etc. It is often by following prescribed principles of living or philosophy. Either way, it is up to the believer whether he/she stays in the right path to enter Nirvana, Saved, Paradice etc. The reason why works should never be added to faith is on my Statement of Faith titled "Salvation." The purpose of the Law is to show man, that he cannot reach heaven because he is 1. Totally depraved, having Adam's Nature, therefore he will always sin (Romans 5:12-18, Ephesians 2:2-4) 2. And to show that He needed a Savior (Romans 3:19-23). The Bible says that if at all we use the Law, even with Faith, the person is under a Curse, and under a debt. the person unfortunately is also not saved either because they have not accepted the Free Gift, and not accept the Righeousness of God: 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. - Romans 10:2-4 Q-5 Babies who die will not go to hell when they are not baptized. Baptism is only a symbol like circumcision to the Jews, marking them as unique . Circumcison never saved them, and Baptism never washes sins away either. Consider David's son who never have been baptized yet David said: 22 And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live? 23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me. - 2 Samuel 12:21-23 Anyone, trying to enforce Baptism is enforcing the law back on the believer which does not save. Peter, on hearing that some group tried to persuade others to be circumcised said this: 10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. - Acts 15:10-11 Q-6 Baptism is important because it is a symbol, partaking in the death, burial and ressurection of Christ. Because it doesn't save, the one who was refused to be baptized is safe. .

They are interpretations, but who's interpretation? Mine? Yours? The Translators? To say that it is just an interpretation is putting God out of the picture, particularly when He said clearly that he will preserve his Words. See my Statement of Faith titled "Does God's Word have Errors?" I understand that translating from one language to another is difficult and there I have to agree with you because one also has to be mindful of grammer rules and proper words but it isn't impossible to translate the essence of the sentence no matter how simple and un-advance the language is. Languages vary according to how simple to complex they are, depending on how advanced the civilization. The OT language, Hebrew, is as simple as our english language. However, the Greek is much more accurate. We have a one word for "Love," the Greek used in NT, Koine Greek, has 4. There is even a greek OT called the Septuagint so combine Hebrew translations and Greek, you can match and compare. Now I have to correct your use of your use of Hebrews. Hebrews 6:1 is talking about Dead Works coming from the Mosaic Law in order to be saved. The last Chapter was about Jesus fulfilling the Order of Melchizedek for Salvation of all but addressed to the Jews who are sitting on a fense. That is why it says "...not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God" I agree with you on this however, I must give God my time to listen to him and learn from His Word. I should not let anything get in the way of that so your advice I will always heed but I cannot abandon the Bible because we are talking about God's Word here. If you believe in the same God i do, you should have been with me on this. Personal Beliefs » does god?s word have errors » LDS Mormon Network .

What do you think of people like Fred Phelps?
Galatians220 replied to SortOfMormon's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
He's not a typical Christian fundamentalist. Your average Fundamentalist stresses on the fundamental doctrines of scripture such as the exclusivity of God, Jesus Christ, Salvation, and the Bible. He/she also is concerned about the morality of this country just as much as the Mormons do. Christian fundamentalism is a reaction to the growing liberalism of the churches around them in the late 19th and early 20th century having abandoned the importance of the gospel and scripture teachings. Billy Graham came to prominence and he is a fundamentalist because he believed in the Bible and the Gospel. He does not rail against this country, it's service members, etc; he simply preaches God's Love, Christ's Sacrifice, the free gift of eternal life and forgiveness of Sins as a result of Faith, that's all. -
What do you think of people like Fred Phelps?
Galatians220 replied to SortOfMormon's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
I think he needs some serious Wall-to-Wall Counseling if you know what I mean. I feel sorry for the members of his family and the members of his church. They're good, obedient, and sincere people but they just happened to that crap he's spewing out because of him. -
No, don't do that.... they may talk about Mormonism and it may be full of lies, but not all their writings are. the site authors has really done a good job in answering so many of the major errors, difficulties, and contradictions going book by book that the site cannot be dismissed as a whole. Of all the Apologetic sites I've found, this one is the best I've seen. I know how you feel about these people because i was a Catholic growing up; but do not dismiss this site outright.

Hi Moksha, Each of those verses has to do with the Lord's Judgment of the people's wickedness. the Last one has to do with the blessings and the cursings the people Israel sware unto prior to their entry into the Land of Canaan, and the first and second is about the Wickedness of the Canaanites themselves: 5 Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. - Deuteronomy 9:5 God hardens their hearts to their destruction but not all He hardens, nor destroyed. Remember Rahab? She was a Canaanite, but has allowed the two Hebrew Spies to hide and then mislead their persecutors the other way. There was also a people of Gideon in Joshua 9 whom Joshua spared because they did not resist the Hebrews. The new of the Hebrew destruction of their previous enemies was enough to make them make a pact with Israel. 15 And Joshua made peace with them, and made a league with them, to let them live: and the princes of the congregation sware unto them. - Joshua 9:15 However, not only because of the wickedness of the Canaanites that must be wiped out but their influence that it might not be a snare unto them and unfortunately, some have been spared and so, it will have a tragic result later on: 16 And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee. - Deuteronomy 7:16

I got these contradictions from SortOfMormon who posted “The Bible is so confusing!” under “The Christian Belief Board." The Errors really bothered him so I looked into each one and found that A LOT have been taken seemingly without ANY regard for the Context, a few seemed deliberate. Only a few required explanation but again, the Context answered the problem completely. After posting my second Statement abut the Bible, I thought I should demonstrate that such, So-Called Contradictions can be Answered just by looking at the Context. That means, ALL Contradictions can be Solved using the same easy method. Many required bible knowledge, but that's why reading the Bible is so important. The following Contradictions are from this website: Crazy stuff from the bible 1st Contradiction: God's Mercy "For I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger forever." (Jeremiah 3:12) Context 12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever. - God speaking to the Exiled Jews "Ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn forever." (Jeremiah 17:4) Context 4 And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever. 5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. - God speaking to the Jews that have sinned by Trusting in Man than Trusting in God When God forces the Jews into Exile, He is sending them to a life sentence where they will be persecuted, hated, maligned, and even killed. This is the punishment He warned them about in Deuteronomy 28-29 (See 28:15... 36-37; 29:25-26) 2nd Contradiction: Christ's Testimony "If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid." (John 5:31) Context 30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. *31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. 32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. 33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth. 34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. - His Witness is not true here IF he acted on his own independent from the Father. In this case, His witness is True BECAUSE He is in the will of His Father "Jesus answered: Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid." (John 8:14) Context 13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. *14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. 15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. 16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. - His witness is true because He knows Himself and the Father Knows Him 3rd Contradiction: Christ's Power of all things "And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth." (Matthew 28:18) Context 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: - this is in the Context of SAVING Mankind, and Not Owning. Recall Matthew 4, Satan tempted Jesus saiy, I will give you all the Kingdoms of the Earth if you bow down and worship me, "the whole world is under control of the evil one." (1 John 5:19) Context - I'm not sure what Bible version he/she is using but that's not what the KJV says. Nevertheless, Satan is, the god of this world, ruling or influencing the hearts of man to error and heresies (2 Corinthians 4:3-4; 11:13-15, Ephesians 2:2-3) 4th Contradiction: Christ's Judgment And Jesus said, "For judgement I am come into this world." (John 9:39) Context 39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind. 40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also? 41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth. - The judgment spoken here is not of saving and condemning but to Reveal and Hide which is why Jesus spoke in Parables (Matthew 13:10-15) "I came not to judge the world" (John 12:47) Context 47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. - God Judges Unbeliever here, which agrees with John 3:17-19 5th Contradiction: Showing Works "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16) Context 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. *16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. - That is talking about personal testimony to the World, not showing off works. "Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 6:1) - That is talking about doing righteous deeds 6th Contradiction: God seen or unseen? "Jacob said, 'I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.'" (Genesis 32:30) Context 24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a MAN with him until the breaking of the day. ... *30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved - This is not the last time God diguised Himself; in chapter 18:1-3, the Triune God revealed himself as three men. "No man hath seen God at any time." (John 1:18) - God is seen by man but his face, or Glory, is VEILED 18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. - Exodus 34:18-20 7th Contradiction: Fear or Love God? We should fear God (Matthew 10:28) - Judgment; nothing to do with Christian living in fear We should love God (Matthew 22:37) - Has to do with Christian living There is no fear in love (1 John 4:18) Context 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. *18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19 We love him, because he first loved us. - No fear because the believers are SAVED. They will NOT face Judgment 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, - Jude 1:24 The best Apologetics site that deals with every major contradiction is at the Christian Apologetics Research Ministry; and Evangelical/Protestant site that answers and deals with major Heresies and Evolution Here is that page that specifically deals with such problematic verses: A bit of warning though... the site also deals with Mormonism Bible Difficulties | Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry

I'm in full agreement there Brother :)

Your grandmother has done very well in her life by her actions... but that's not really the point of James 2:14, it not really about going going out of your way to prove you're saved, it is simply living your life by example. Your grandmother's life, speaks louder than words, and that is inspiring at all angles; her life is a testament of a changed heart. What it is, is that if you say that you are a Christian, but you just stay home, or you simply attend church not helping others than over time, some in church might wonder about your faith Now the one thing they can't do is to look through your heart and see that you truly believe. The only way they know you are a believer is through your works. Verse 14 actually reads like this: "He said he believes, but he doesn't act like it, is he really Saved?" When it comes to living a Christian life, faith and works do go hand-in-hand because each one strengthens the other. If your faith is strong, you will likely to obey or act. If you work, the result of your accomplishment through the Lord strengthens your faith. However when it comes to salvation, works can never save. If you say you believe but have not accepted the free gift then you're on your own. You can never make it to heaven because it is impossible to be perfect. You can live by faith, love, which fulfills the commandments, live by the fruit of the Spirit, but soon you will sin, and so there's no forgiveness after that because the free gift was denied: 1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. - Romans 10:1-4
-
I've asked you if you wanted to talk about that verse when you quoted James, your reply didn't seemed to show that you have had an interest in talking about it I failed to see a, "yes", "no," implication directly regarding the verse; instead you wanted to talk about an instance of two scriptures which I have mistaken to be of something else you had in mind. James 2:14 14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? Now the verses between James and John actually doesn't contradict; it is actually the case of a verse taken out of context. Here's the context: 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled;notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. - what does 15-16 has to do with using works to save oneself? Doesn't seemed to have anything to do with Salvation because it's giving an example of someone saying something but not proving it. What's even more telling is verse 18: 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. - Now who's "Me" on that verse? God? No, because it says, "Yea, a man may say..." The whole of James is talking about human relations beginning with being partial to the rich and not the poor prior to 2:14-26. If verse 14 is really talking about Salvation then there should have been a statement of eternal consenquece but it didn't. Therefore, vs. 14 is not talking about Salvation because 15-16, and then 18, is talking about a well wisher, not PROVING his/her faith by action. What this really is, is a lesson on proving to people that you are a Christian through your works, not to God at all.

I'm sorry that you have seen those things; I met a few on youTUBE who are uncaring and are only interested in bashing Mormonism. What a shame

Hi Maya, nice to see you again :) Personally, I believe that the word, saved, means deliverance, or spared of something. I looked up the word in greek, the word Saved is "Sozo" The following is from Blue Letter Bible - Home Page (1) 1) to save, keep safe and sound, to rescue from danger or destruction a) one (from injury or peril) 1) to save a suffering one (from perishing), i.e. one suffering from disease, to make well, heal, restore to health 1) to preserve one who is in danger of destruction, to save or rescue b) to save in the technical biblical sense 1) negatively a) to deliver from the penalties of the Messianic judgment b) to save from the evils which obstruct the reception of the Messianic deliverance In terms of Salvation, from what I see in Scripture, when one is saved, one is delivered from the ultimate penalty of Sin which is Eternal Damnation because for one, Jesus made a Promise... that if we believe, we have Eternal Life and so will never be numbered with the Unbelieving: 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. - John 5:24 1. OK, I'll be back later on; if you have any questions, feel free to post here or leave a comment at my profile. God bless; I'm glad your neighbors are kind as well as loving :)
-
It all depends on the content of the two scriptures.... for example, the Protestants didn't add the 7 Catholic Deuterocannons (1 & 2 Maccabees, Tobit, Wisdom etc) because each one has a particular practice that is not recognized and or found in the Jewish scripture. Prayers to the Angels is one. It is the same reason why we barred the gnostic text such as the Gospel of Thomas and others. In dealing with fundamental teachings, If one text says God is the Trinity, and the other says, God is one, and Jesus is Not God's Son, then one has to be right and the other, wrong, there's no room for compromise.
-
Oh yes it does, its in James 2:14. Would you like to discuss that? Its great that you have a diverse neighbors even if there is some disagreements :)
-
Um partly true, Salvation is not dependant on your duration of faith or how much. Faith Alone says that If you have made a decison for Christ, you place your faith on Him, you are saved (John 5:24, Romans 10:9-10). By definition, faith is closely related to Believe. In Hebrews 11, it the author defines what Faith is: 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Its no problem I don't mind debating. Doctinal discussions are always good. :) Thanks for the welcome statement, I appreciate that :)

God Is Loving by nature, but God is also Just, Merciful, and Holy so therefore, He must punish sin for what it is (see Exodus 34:6-7). In that passage you are looking at, Isaiah 45:7; that is His statement of Authority, that He acts according to what is Right in His eyes: 6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. 7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. And now on Exodus 32:14, let me ask you a question; why do you think the Bible says that?

You know, I didn't see that site you've cited; I took a quick look and I realized that it was from an agnostic/atheist. When you look at those scriptures, they do seemed to contradict each other but i believe that So-called Bible Contradictions, are not really contradictions at all but verses either misunderstood, used as a straw-man, or simply been taken out of their context. I'll be looking at them one by one, and explain each one here to you.

Hi SortOfMormon, I'd like to respond to your post about understanding the Bible. Having read the Bible for many years, it can be confusing if you're just starting off. When I first read scripture, I started off on Genesis because I thought it makes sense to read it from the beginning. At first, it gets interesting but then as you read Leviticus, Numbers, you start to wonder if it'll ever end. Here's the advice I was given when I got saved; 1. Pray before you Read. I'm sure you that someone has already shown you James 1:5.... 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Pray to God to give you understanding and not let any bias or preconceived beliefs interfere with the proper interpretation of Scripture. 2. Read the New Testament first before the Old Testament beginning with either gospel accounts. The New Testament will give you a better understanding of the OT because the OT law is restated and also explained. Once you've read the NT, you will have a much better understanding of the OT 3. Basic Reading and Interpretation (a, b, c, & d) a). Interpret the Bible Literally and at face-value; why? Because it was meant to be that way: 29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. - Deuteronomy 19:29 The Bible is not a Code Book nor it has any hidden meanings. While most can be read literally, by common sense, you know that Prophecy, Parables, and the Poetic books (Psalms & Proverbs etc) b) Quality of reading more important than Quantity (Or how much). While reading 6 chapters a day allow you to finish the Bible in a year, it does little to help in your understanding. By reading the Bible at your own pace, you will get more details of the passage, and therefore, you know the context of the passage and this will prove invaluable in your ministry. c) Have a Journal and Pencil ready to jot down what stuck out for you and the ones you don't understand. d) Context and Difficulty. The Context is the background of the sentence. It can be a paragraph to a few chapters because it may deal with a broader issue. The Context is a very important thing in seeing what the Bible says, especially in building a strong defense of God's word and your faith (2 Timothy 2:15). When encountering a problematic passage, look at the context of the verse because more often than not, you will find the answer you're looking for. However, if you still cannot solve it; write it down on your notes for your Elders to look at it. Don't be afraid to ask, there is no such thing as a stupid question. Your Elders and your peers are there to help. Once you received your answer, write it down on your journal so that you can look back on it. Other Tips: 1. Search for a Bible Commentary. I don't know if the LDS has a commentary yet on the whole bible but look for it. A good commentary deals with every chapter in the Bible, not just select chapters and passages. 2. Buy a Bible Dictionary or Encyclopedia. 3. Buy a KJV dictionary because Old English is not easy for anyone to understand. If you can, buy an easy-to-read Bible version such as the NKJV

Hi Michael, I'm also new here, also doing a bit of investigating, but not yet ready to join their church yet. Good luck in your search :) -
Hi I'm Ray; I am an Evangelical, closer to the Baptist teaching than anything else. My beliefs are as follows: I believe in the Bible both Old and New Testament. The Bible is w/out error, always relevant, and aside from punctuations translation and style variances, it is perfect (Psalm 12:6, 33:6-7, Proverbs 22:19-21). . From the Bible, I believe in the Trinity; One God in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 48:16-17). I believe that Salvation comes by Faith Alone (Galatians 3:10-13), and that one day, all believers will be Raptured to heaven before the Tribulation Period (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). ><><><>< I came over from YouTUBE (as “rrgison”) listening to Glenn Beck's testimony on how he was once a difficult and hot tempered man to a very calm believer. He became that way because he accepted the teachings of the LDS. After seeing the clear sincerity and genuineness of his long time friend, he knew he wanted to become a Mormon. I've come to talk to, and learn from the former Evangelicals to see how they were, by scripture, became Mormons as well as to learn further what is offered here. My overall study of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began a year ago when a friend invited me to a bible study. I agreed and have studied 6 months later, I left but promised to continue to read the Book of Mormon. God Bless!
