  1. That is not true. The word Trinity is used as a definition in describing who God is and how he exists based on Biblical scripture. It is a succinct word to describe God. A different but similar example would be Plural Marriage. No where in LDS scripture do you find the words plural marriage. But we know it is an LDS doctrine based on D&C 132. The doctrine has never been removed from LDS scripture, therefore it is a legitimate doctrine and succinctly described by the words plural marriage. M. What is plural marriage? Is that polygamy? I thought the Mormon Church banned polygamy?
  2. There was an apostasy from authority but there was apostasy from more than just the authority. Mostly we understand that authority was taken from the earth piece by piece as apostles died (or otherwise removed from the society of man) that were not replaced. But there were still others that had authority given to them by the apostles - since they did not have authority to pass priesthood offices on to others without the Apostles the structure and methods of the kingdom was doomed with the loss of the Apostles. However, the authority was not completly lost until the last priesthood holder ordained under the Apostles also died. This could take several years and today we have no idea who the last priesthood holder was - It might have been a man known as Moroni. The Traveler Ah okay. Well that is very interesting. Thank you! I guess you do not believe in Apostolic Succession as Catholics do then right?
  3. One thing I think of concerning Apostasy and restoration is that sometimes we cannot isolate all things to a specific time - Like Wednesday afternoon September 8, 0074 AD. the Apostasy began. We see the seeds of apostasy being planted even while Jesus was alive. Likewise the restoration did not all take place with Joseph Smith. There were many "reformers" during hundreds of years preparing and in the same manner there is yet much to be done to restore the kingdom of G-d and the return of Jesus as the king. With that said there are mile stones. Some of the milestones in history that I see of the Apostasy is the event of the destruction of the Library at Alexandria. This event destroyed the most accurate copies of the Old and New Testament scriptures and started the western world in the era known as the "Dark Ages". Another milestone of Apostasy was Charlemagne and his purges of the pagans of northern Europe that brought more death than the Black Plague. I believe some of the milestones in the restoration was the first printing of an English translation of the Christian Bible along with the concept of the common people reading scriptures. I also believe the Freedom of Religion act of 1649 that outlawed death as a punishment for not believing the dominate religion (though it would be 200 years before this included non-Trinitarian religions) was a major milestone in Wester society. Some other milestones was the restoration of the Book of Mormon and the same and offices and authority of the Priesthoods held by the Apostles. Another is the dedication by a modern Apostle of the holy land for the return of Israel and the return of Jews to the middle east as a nation. Milestones I am looking for to yet happen is the sending of missionaries to the middle East and the building of a temple in Jerusalem. The Traveler Don't Mormons believe that there was a complete apostasy by the time the apostles had died or do they believe that the apostasy was gradual?
  4. I'd also like to hear more about this.
  5. Can someone please help me to understand the Great Apostasy. How long did it last? Also, is there any historical evidence of a Great Apostasy?
  6. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has a prophet. Well, my question is how does the LDS church select its prophet? Does the prophet inherit the office or what?
  7. the full block of meetings is 3 hours...approx ! hr each for Sacrament meeting, Sunday School, and Relief Society/Young Womens. i'm sure people will understand if you don't have a dress. hope you enjoy your day Thank you. I decided not to go.
  8. I am just curious as to what Mormons believe about the Holy Spirit or the Holy Ghost?
  9. Today I am visiting a Mormon Church for the first time. I have become highly interested in the Mormon Church and have decided to make my first visit today. I do not have a dress to wear but I am wearing my Sunday best which is black dress pants and a nice sweater. I hope that they accept what I am wearing as I know that most of the women will be wearing a dress or a skirt. I don't have either unfortunately. Anyway, please pray for me. Also, how long will the service last or does it vary?
  10. I will make a new post in that thread so it will be out in the front. As for your question, The thing you must understand about LDS diety is that the Father, the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Ghost are three distinct personages; as opposed to some other beliefs that they are one and the same in a holy trinity. This being said, Jesus is the son of God the Father. Jesus recieved His mortal body when He came to this Earth. God the Father recieved His mortal body on another Earth. That is where He earned His Godhood. Therefore He had a Father in Heaven while on that world and still has a Father in Heaven to this day. Let me know if I can be of more help. L.H. So our Heavenly Father has His own Heavenly Father that He must obey as well?
  11. Yes, they are the same thing I think. Its when you receive the bread and wine.
  12. Hello. What do Mormons believe about communion? Do you believe that it is the body and blood of Jesus or do you believe something else? If you believe it is the body and blood of Jesus, is it physically His body and blood, is it spiritually His body and blood, or is it something else?
  13. Does that mean we can become equal to God? God is in a process of eternal progression just as we are. We may get to the point God is at now, but He will always be our Father in Heaven; regardless of how high we get. We will never be His Equal. There was a recent discussion on this topic in a thread called "Temple ordinances & Jesus" Look for that thread in the search engine you will find alot of information on this subject. I hope this helps. L.H. Oh okay thanks. I did a search for the thread and couldn't find it. Therefore, I have another question. Since Jesus became God while living on another planet, was there ever anyone who became God before Him? Does he have anyone who is higher up than He?

  15. Thank you again. What are some good places to look offline? Is Wal-Mart, Target, or similar stores good places to find dresses? Also, I'm searching on a budget. My wife and Girls actually shop at the Goodwill second hand stores in our area for dresses and have found some very nice church dresses and very cheap prices....! Ah okay thanks! I wonder if I can find plus size dresses at those places?
  16. You can read all about Jesus being a man in the New Testament in the Bible......it's pretty much common knowledge for Christians No what I am saying is that I heard Mormons believe that Jesus was a normal man first and that he attained Godhood by being a very good person or something like that.
  17. Thank you again. What are some good places to look offline? Is Wal-Mart, Target, or similar stores good places to find dresses? 19. I think I read somewhere once that Mormons believe that Jesus was a man before He became God. Is this true?
