  1. I have no problem with their scrutiny of Rod, I do however take issue with their lack of scrutiny on issues they agree with. IMHO being 'fair' would mean applying equal scrutiny to both sides.

I'm sure if they used the same tactics as Meldrum has they would have no problem doing so. I don't think they really care about the theory itself more of the shoddy research and appeal to authority. You know nothing says more then hey look at the GA here in the audience. He agrees with me, so should you. That kind of stuff goes along way in LDS culture.

  2. I've never seen them scrutinize works that agree with scripture and popular LDS theories no matter how unfounded in actual science they are.

Personally I believe that they see a real danger with his work. That's the reason for the scrutiny. That by using his faulty data, and appeals to authority people are laying all their faith in what he says, instead of their faith in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. If there was a fall out, people testimonies are at stake. I'm sure Meldrum is a great guy and has real good intentions but honestly what he is doing can hurt a lot of people. Why do you think anti's are eating this up. They know where Meldrum succeeds they do also. You can find them wringing their hands on RFM, Signature Books, and other known sites hostile to the church. waiting for the fallout with arms wide open.

  3. I don't think that FAIR's criticism of Mr. Meldrum's work is innaccurate, but I do think that their level of scrutiny is inconsistent. I've never seen them scrutinize works that agree with scripture and popular LDS theories no matter how unfounded in actual science they are.

In any case, that's just my 2 cents.

Since Rod hasn't shown FAIR where they were inaccurate perhaps you would be willing to do it for him?

  4. I doubt Rod Meldrum would disengage, it's his livelihood. He has everything to lose if his theory is discredited, especially by members of his own faith. Meldrum is also characterizing attacks on his theories as attacks on him. I have seen nothing of the sort, what I have seen is Meldrum calling any scholars and people that don't agree with him as apostates. He is in no position of authority to do so. It also looks like FAIR was gracious with him and tried to help him. When he refused is when they published there findings. I know this was the case on FAIRS first response to the dvd's. From my understanding is they contacting him about using the Prophet incorrectly and he ignored them. He didn't put a change on his website till after FAIR published its findings. He is still selling the original dvd with the mistake with no notice on it. On this most recent release it also seems FAIR gave him over a month to review there work and were willing to work with him. Rod has refused to do this also. If Rod is so compelled that Heavenly Father has revealed to him what he has not revealed to his Prophets, why is he selling this prophetic announcement?

  5. I told this to the person who said these things to me, and she laughed. She said I was foolish and that was just not how it worked. She said being Catholic, in and of itself, was a direct rejection of God and that unless Catholics repent for having been Catholic in the first place, they will not go to any of the 3 kingdoms of heaven. I decided to challenge this person, so I asked if she thought that Mother Theresa, a woman who lived a life of service and prayer and obedience and love of God, went to hell after she died. She told me that she most definitely thought Mother Theresa was in hell because it is unlikely that she would have renounced Catholicism after death because she was "very Catholic." It was then that I decided to just never talk about religion with this person again. I'm not the type to get into a fight. So instead of taking the word of people like her, I decided to learn about what your faith ACTUALLY teaches. So here I am. Thanks again, guys.

Wow this person needs a lesson in social skills and get out of Utah. I live in a predominant Catholic area and get the same kind of thing. There are fundies in every religion, all I have to say is good thing I'm not one of them.

  6. "The Roman Catholic Church is the great abominable church which is presided over by satan and all its members are doomed to hell."

Someone actually told you this in a conversation? As far as most LDS are concerned (except for the wingnut that would have told you the above) we are both followers of Christ and Children of God. By the way the Great and Abominable church is not one church in particular its symbolism for any church against the Church of the Lamb.

    Daniel

Btw they may have gotten the notion that the Catholic Church was the Great Abominable church from a book that came out decades ago and was refuted by the First Presidency of the LDS Church.

  7. I was inactive for many years and did not believe in a God. I was in the same boat and wish that I was excuminicated so I could start over but you know what it wasn't that bad. I had a great bishop that let me take things at my pace. There were many burdens I carried on my shoulders that did not belong to me and he helped me work through them and I also gained faith in the atonement. I think as you come back thats what you should remember is that your sins can and will be forgiven. All you have to do is ask.

  8. Thanks for the input. So far so good and many points I did not think of. Here are my solutions to some of them.

They sell a water bactericide that should take care of any heat related bacteria and that could be purchased at a camping store or army surplus.

I have plywood up there right now to distribute weight better I guess I will need to check the strength of my rafters. . Although I think it would be ok I mean I got my ac unit up there and its very common for people to have their water heaters up there and those would weigh more then a food quality plactic tank and water which shouldn't exeed 500 lbs.

We already had a vermin problem and luckily I was able to have my roof rat proofed by a pest control company so that should have taken care of that I hope. But yes I will need some kind of drip pan and escape route for it. Maybe an a/c pan?

I have soft water and R/O system built into my home so having water delivered and rotating it with usage wont work.

So far all we got are 7 gallon water containers stacked in the storage room in our garage. Got enough for a week for a family of 4. I think this is looking like a viable solution lets keep thinking about it and try to find any other downfalls that you all might find?

  9. Ive been trying to figure out the best way to store water for a family that could extend water supply from a week to a month without needing to take up a whole room. I came up with this idea but it has some problems. Heat is a major one but I would like to find ways around it. I want to purchase an rv water storage tank and put it in my attic and plumb a spicket to it in my garage so I can hook up a hose to it easily and fill it or empty it from one point. Tanks range in size but I think with what I have in portable water a 55 gal tank would do the trick. However my attic temperature is over 110-130F. With its high pitch and ventilation its really not that bad to spend time up there. So here is my questions.

    1. What does heat do to water if it is reguraly circulated.

    2. What ways could I insulate it so the heat isn't as major factor.

Anyways your input on this would be great.

  10. Umm...Ron Paul is running for president, is he not?

I know he has basically no chance, but he is still on the ballot nonetheless.

So according to my understanding of the board's rules you shouldn't be posting that.

But then again you are the moderator, so maybe you know better then I.^_^

    As to the OP:

I'm know how much faith I would put on Saddam to tell the truth, he does have a legacy to defend in his illusions of grandeur.

Please help us by using the report function.

    Thank you,

  11. Welcome some of us, were or are in the same shoes as you are in. Remember no matter what happens the atonement is for you and for all of us. There is nothing that can get in the way of you not being forgiven but yourself. If you have any questions or need anything let us know.

    p.s. Welcome to the site.

  12. I can get into Chat now. Took me getting a Brand New Computer for it to work though. I could get in with my computer at work- so I knew it was my computer at home that was the problem.

I now have a brand new puter with a HUGH, HUMONGOUS flat screen. So I will be checking every now and then to see if anyone else is there.

I want to thank you QP for trying to help me fix my problem.

BTW I am still having problems getting the sounds back. I guess I might need to delete some files and reload it. As soon as I can I will get on it.

  13. The other day I was talking to my neighbor lady and she said something to me about wearing a garment that goes to her knees and I didnt think any thing of it because quite a few women in that age group wear things fro control and vericose veins and such. is this the garment that you are speaking of? and if it is then why do people where it? Well I guess I mean why does God ask people to where it?

I suggest you all read this book. It answers many questions that you all may have about the temple and the temple garment and other apects of LDS culture. When we go to the temple we covenant to wear our temple garments at all times except in cases where it is not appropriate or exposes them to persons that would not respect their significance. I will answer a few questions about the temple garment however I ask that we all please stay away from discussing them in detail since this is not the proper place to discuss such sacred things.

    1. Yes both the men and woman’s garment comes down to the knees and the top is like a sleeved camisole for woman and for men it’s like any undershirt.

    2. There are different materials used but the styles are pretty much the same.

    3. We are asked to wear them as daily reminders of the higher covenants we have taken upon ourselves in the temple.

    4. We are told if we faithfully wear them they are to protect us from evil. (Whatever that means who knows there are tons of urban legends about temple garments out there, I doubt most of them are true and I do not want to find out if they are bullet proof)

    5. They have marks on them that have special meanings that you will learn in the temple.
