  1. If you have gotten to chapter 7 in Tolles book - does it remind you of King Benjamins advice to his people? Example: Mosiah 3:19 19 For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.
  2. I have read most of the book. He does have a knack for describing the human experience (natural man.) I find myself relating what he says to talks I've heard, Ensign articles read, scriptures, etc. So, I guess I am adding a lot between the lines. He doesn't directly address the adversary - I guess I have lumped Lucifer in with the "ego" I am taking the class too - though I admit I have not done the work book exercises.
  3. Tons of people are reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. It seems to be another one of those "reactionary books" - either you love it or you don't. I'd love to hear what you all think about it.
  4. LOVE this book. It shed new light on familiar stories. Abigail is my new hero. :) This book brought a clearer perspective of forgiveness to my life.
  5. The story of Abigail - She saved David from his sin (being angry/not forgiving Nabal) and Nabal from being destroyed, by David and his men, with one act.
  6. My parents were a young married couple (two children and one on the way) when they joined the church. My dad thought my mom was going to divorce him when he told her he wanted to join the church. She surprised him by saying "its about time!" That was over 50 years ago. My father's brother is a minister. To this day, when my parents talk to their family, the conversations are dominated by their siblings trying to convince them they made the wrong choice.
  7. Thank you for your welcome comments Mailis, susieSA, and HiJolly. I look forward to getting to know you all better. I recently asked my mother to tell me the story of her conversion. My parents families are both anti-mormon. It was a difficult decision for my parents to join the church. I am so grateful for the sacrifice they made.
  8. I found this site doing a search and I probably would have just passed through; but, then I read a post about sharing testimonies. I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint all my life (my parents converted before I was born) and I believe in this gospel. It brings peace and joy to my life; however, I have not been good about at sharing this knowledge with others. May be I can work on that here. I am looking forward to a forum for discussing gospel topics (I am currently a CTR 5 teacher so I am missing Sunday School and RS.) thank you so much for a warm welcome! (oh, and a BIG thank you to the web designer!)
  9. Proverb 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. The Lord knew Laban better then Nephi did. His response to Nephi's hesitation to kill Laban gives a lot of insight: 1 Nephi 4:13 Behold the Lord slayeth the wicked to bring forth his righteous purposes. It is better that one man should perish than that a nation should dwindle and perish in unbelief.
