StallionMcBeastly Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 (edited) I was with my friends and these dudes pulled up to us in a Chevy Tahoe with a Florida license plate and asks if we wanted to buy a home theater system. They told us they distributed these speakers for a company and they received more speakers than they need to deliver, so they had extras and they wanted to sell them to us for cheap. One of the dudes pulls out a catalog showing the speakers are worth $2,500. He also shows us the invoice as well. Both Fake.I felt uneasy about it and wasn't about to drop major dough to some tatted up bro's, but my friends thought they were getting a deal. Long story short my friends give them $400, we get home and google "Olin Ross" and turns out they got ripped off. On this website people who are victims of the scam write their story, and it seems to be happening in the Nevada California area.Fraud and Scam Sightings & Locations - Nevada - SCAM SHIELD - An organization protecting citizens against scams and fraud schemes through advocacy and informationI wanted to warn you all! NeuroTypical Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Talking about specific scams is great, but nothing beats just being mature enough to understand the basic rule "if it seems to good to be true, it probably is". Con man. The "Con" stands for "Confidence". They basically trade their confidence in you for your money. Everyone wants to be loved and respected, con men use that to separate us from our money. StallionMcBeastly Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 Did the speakers even work?I'm not sure, my friends bought it with the intention of selling it....they weren't planning on using them. I don't know if they tried them or not. Quote
DanielNicolai Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Plain and simple. Unless you search for a product online, don't give anyone your bank information. If someone says they have something for you that you didn't order, it's a scam. There are hundreds of tips on how to prevent identity theft and fraud, but plain and simple if you don't ask for it, don't accept it. Quote
