Snow Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Well there is a test for it, albeit not necessarily a conclusive one: I can predict what I will do in the future and regardless of any unforeseen "determinants" between now and then, I can still do what I predicted what I would do. Quote
Guest Taoist_Saint Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 And here I was expecting a debate about causality. Quote
Cal Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Ahhh yes... determinism vs. freewill. Since we are all controlled by the random motion of molecules, and the movement of molecules could, theoretically at least, be predicted on the basis of the laws of conservation of momentum and chemical reactions, we should be able to predict the exact result of every atom's interaction with every other, and thereby predict every event in the universe, and thereby negate any notion of freewill. But, that would take all the fun out of life, wouldn't it. Quote
Guest Taoist_Saint Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 That's what I was getting at. But somehow Adam caused the molecules to go crazy when he ate that apple. Quote
Guest Taoist_Saint Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Of course I should have added..."if there was a biblical Adam". Quote

Well those of us who use Macs might be able to but those of you still computing with PCs lack the sophistication and horsepower. Quote
Cal Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Yeah....I quess we'll have to wait until Intel can get its act together. Quote

Ahh, but then my friend, you will still be a slave to the Bill Gatesian dark side.Join with the force Luke. Think Mac. Quote
Cal Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 I would, but I can afford them! Plus, I can't find enough programs compatible. I do, however, like the idea of the underdog taking a bite out of the big mutt. And I have to say, I'm tired of how often Windows 98 crashes. Quote
Snow Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 PC users tolerate their computers. Mac owners are like fanatic religionist. Seriously, I follow a couple mac related websites, commentaries and message boards. Mac fans are fanatics. The arguments there use sound like what religious apologists would say. It's them versus evil Windows. Quote
Cal Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Kind of like the early Saints of early Utah! But, hey, now we're mainstream, we don't have to be paranoid anymore! Quote
Snow Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Exactly, now that the Church is rich and powerful, and populous, we aren't near so paranoid as we used to be (still, old habits die hard). If Mac gets some marketshare, the macfanatics will mature a bit. Quote
Guest Taoist_Saint Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 So did Adam cause the molecules to stop obeying the laws of causality when he ate that apple? Quote
Tr2 Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Free Will is an illusion. Then we are robots, not humans. Quote
