Has anybody seen this movie? I think that it is a movie that every mormon should see, if for no other reason that to see things from another perspective.

ROFL..how is THAT considered to have my "head buried in the sand"?

Let's see..what is Latter Days about? I'll ask Netflix, who I rent my movies from:

This controversial film explores the consequences of a young Mormon missionary, Aaron (Steve Sandvoss), recognizing his homosexuality and falling in love with another man. Aaron's first sexual encounter with a gay "party boy" (Wesley A. Ramsey) leads to a passionate romance that gets Aaron excommunicated from his church and risks destroying both their lives. Charming and sexy, Latter Days offers a heady mix of romantic comedy and powerful drama.

Hmmm...I've had 3 friends come off their missions who "outed" themselves. I was supportive and loving of each and every one of them. One friend lives in San Diego. He still says he's a "homosexual" however he is a non-practicing homosexual. He has repented of past deeds and is a full temple recommend holder. I love him dearly, his name is JD. Another of those friends also lives in San Diego w/ Nate his life partner. He recently had to have his cat put down due to cancer and has a new kitten on the way. He professes to be an atheist and he is one of the channel managers of #LDS where I chat frequently. He was one of my closest friends at BYU. The 3rd RM I haven't heard from in years, so I don't know what he's up to.

So pray tell, HOW do I have my head in the sand? Because I don't want to watch a movie about homosexuality? Because I don't want to watch a movie about about a MISSIONARY who has sex with guys? I personally like THIS description brought to us by our friends at Blockbuster.com:

Christian (Wesley A. Ramsey) is a young gay party boy who lives in Southern California. When a group of good-looking Mormon missionary guys move into his apartment complex, he's determined to pick one up. He ends up falling for sweet, innocent Mormon Aaron Davis (Steve Sandvoss), who's secretly struggling with his sexuality. Aaron slowly falls for Christian, even though he thinks he's shallow. The romance causes problems in both worlds. Christian tries to develop a conscience and ends up meeting Keith (Erik Palladino), a man dying of AIDS. Aaron has the difficult job of coming out to his mom (Mary Kay Place) and to his fellow missionaries. He comes against harsh criticism from the blatantly homophobic Ryder (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Latter Days won awards at the Philadelphia Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and L.A. Outfest. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

ooooooh sounds uplifting!! Again, no thanks!! I personally recommend "The Forgotten" which I watched last night. Very good thriller w/ 5 cuss words. Not bad!!!

Think before you type bat :) You judge me because of my religioius beliefs without even bothering to get to know me.

ROFL you should try getting to know me before attempting to insult me...

I didn't attempt to insult you, I told you what my opinion was. Nice strawman though.

Fairy...

Are you not willing to watch Latter Days because it's not uplifting? How is "Forgotten", a movie about a mother coming to terms with her grief after losing her eight year old son, uplifting?

I found Latter Days to be very uplifting. It was an excellent, well thought-out movie.

actually...Forgotten is an extremely uplifting movie...has an AWESOME "moral" and has a wonderful ending...what you just described is not what Forgotten is about :)

I have no desire to see Latter Days based on its content..

Christian is the typical LA gay boy: hot tanned body, gorgeous looks, and a taste for the one-night stand. By day, he waits tables at the quaint Lila’s where his sexual conquests are frequently discussed with his co-workers. One day, new tenants move into Christian’s apartment complex. Four young Mormon missionaries, including the sweet and innocent Elder Aaron. As sexual tension builds between Christian and Aaron, the Lila’s staff wages a bet that Christian cannot bed his missionary man. The bet is on, but there is a problem. Christian is falling in love with his latter-day saint. To make matters worse, the Mormon condemnation of homosexuality sends our lovelorn heroes into trials of regret, loss, perseverance, and forgiveness.

Great, I try never to miss a movie where a hot, tanned, gorgeous, homosexual trys to crack onto a sweet, innocent Mormon Elder.

I also love all sitcoms that have Morgan Fairchild make a guest appearance. Oh, and David Hasselhoff is Americas greatest actor.

Fairy reminds me of Aaron's mother. I wonder what she will do if her son the future missionary is gay....

It is out on DVD (that means it doesn't cost $8.50), and it isn't "a movie about homosexuality". Not that you would care to clear up your misconceptions. Put your head back in the sand.

And what perspective is that Bat?

It is out on DVD (that means it doesn't cost $8.50)

Edit: Just occurred to me that you were hinting at renting, not at purchase.

and it isn't "a movie about homosexuality".

Yep, looks like your standard stupid romantic comedy with a twist, seeming how the ones with straight people stink, don't see how one with gay people is supposed to be better, I wouldn't want to watch one about a women seducing of the missionaries, or visa versa especially when you consider...

/me does his own look up of the movie.

It's apparently R, you should know better than that Bat, even if it was about puppies chasing a rabbit, if it's R Saints in good standing shouldn't be watching it, and when you pile on why it's R, Language and Sexual Content they definitely shouldn't be seeing it.

From the perspective of a group of individuals that your church teaches are inferior.

Yes, renting. No, not buying. No, not going to a movie theatre to see, as implied by Fairy's reference to $8.50. I paid $3.79 to rent it, and I didn't even have to take out a loan from the bank for it.

I typically hate romantic comedies, but this was a really well made film with a great story line that isn't really even that far fetched.

Not all mormons live under rocks and don't see "R rated" movies just because some old people tell them not to do that and to not have more than one ear piercing. If you're one of those people, I don't see how that is my problem.

Inspite of defending the position that homosexuality is strongly genetic and that any religion that would make a sin out of something a person has little control over ought to have it's collective head examined, I nevertheless, wouldn't want to see a movie about gays doing their gay thing, any more than gays would enjoy seeing hetero's doing their hetero thing.

Oh, you probably wouldn't like it then. Maybe go see Resident Evil 2 instead. It's even got zombie prostitutes. That's bonus points for a movie.
