Apparently some people are critical of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry on the grounds that whilst he only attempted to defer his Vietnam draft for a year, George W. Bush was crafty enough to dodge the entire war.

First, Kerry didn't "attempt" to get deferrments. He actually got 4 deferrments. No big deal except the hypocrisy in him, via Teresa, attacking Cheney for getting 4 deferrments.

Second, Bush didn dodge the war, he served and was honorably discharged for the National Guard. When you "dodged" you are trying to pull a Cal on us.

So, Bush was in Vietnam, then?

No?

Oh, I see. So he was a rich boy draft dodger! :D

Some ran away to Canada, some ran away to Europe, some ran away to Australia (whilst Australians fought in Vietnam. Kind of ironic, that!) and some ran all the way to the National Guard. ;)

Or some went as a buck private...with a body guard. :P

or went and got purple hearts by getting hit with rice!

It reminds me of Frank burns who got a purple heart on M*A*S*H when he got hit with a shell fragment...an egg shell.

You are correct we should honor him for serving...how he served IS an issue.

GW Bush didn't dodge...he joined too. To say that he dodged is a slap in the face to everyone who has served, do serve, and will serve in the Guard.

Don't go inventing definitions, like Cal, to twist an argument. Draft dodger is a term that arose during te Vietnam war/conflict to describe those that fled abroad to avoid the draft or those that defied a legal order to join the Armed Forces.

Matt, being well informed on the subject, surely knows that Bush volunteered for Vietnam duty under the Palace Guard program, but was passed over in favor of more experienced pilots.

By that I take it you think that the term "draft dodging" applies to join the National Guard arm of the Armed Services.

See Cal, this is there best part about arguing with you. It's like shooting candy out of baby's barrel. My definition is the widely known and universally accepted definition. Your's and Matt's is known and accepted only in barren reccesses of your liberal mind.

Again, more erroneous mischaracterization. I don't recall defining "draft dodging" at all. In fact, I don't recall slamming Bush's war record, I have mainly defended Kerry's. And as I said before, I don't think any of it is that much of an issue.

By the way, including personal insults in most of your responses mainly makes you look desperate for substance.

Do I have to explain every little tiny thing to you?

Matt midefined "draft-dodging"

I told him that is what you have been doing.

You responded that that I can only win if my definition stand.

I replied that you were easy to beat because your definition were made up.

You said that was erroneous.

It wasn't erroneous.

You lose again because you can't follow a conversation you are a part of.
