Lindy Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 Ok, I laugh at the second one "attacking USA" but I don't understand what you found funny about the first one? Maybe I missed something. Care to enlighten me? Quote

So this "humble" Christian is not so humble. It is an ironic story. Reminds me of John Kerry - complains that jobs are being out-sourced or lost out-of-country yet complains that we should be importing Canadian drugs and demands that we continue to outsource our oil needs to our sworn enemies. Ironic indeed. Now, back to your regular programming. Quote
Matt Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 yet complains that we should be importing Canadian drugsNo! What America needs is expensive healthcare, to ensure Big Pharma stays big and rich! And if that's at the expense of millions of ordinary Americans? Too bad. Let 'em chew grass like a dog does, if they can't afford Big Pharma's prices. Quote

So this "humble" Christian is not so humble. It is an ironic story. The humor is pretty subtle...but for example, read this line again:"Hugh's got a very personal, private relationship with God," Gaston said. "He told me all about it."So the guy just contradicted himself. So many people are like that, while Christ specifically told us not to do that. You know how he told us not to pray in public, and instead you should be humble and pray in private? So while that Onion story is funny, it also has a true message. I understand your point.... However I still remember how I felt years ago when I was so happy to have found the peace I needed in my life...that I wanted to share it with everyone. (of course I was in another church at the time....and it was expected of us)I still get warm fuzzies when I hear people telling me how excited they are to have the Lord in their lives.... and yes, I know there are fanatics who carry it to the extreme.... and contradict themselves with what they believe and what they live....but I still enjoy hearing people praising God and sharing their love with others.Call me outdated.... old fashioned......etc.....
