annewandering Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 you might think twice about splicing christmas tree lights. that is the one place i would hesitate to save money on. i loved making decorations for christmas. egg cartons cut up and made into little creches, kind of like fabrage eggs? gluing two holders of the eggs together to make a 'ball', painted and hung with pipecleaners. emptied egg shells painted look really pretty. pipe cleaners can make so many things. add a little glitter and glue and you can make marvelous things! Nappaljarri Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 Christmas to us is an extension of every other day of the year. We have some interesting symbols at Christmas time. We believe that our christmas tree should symbolise the tree of life. And we believe that the tree of life's roots are Jesus and that we are the branches and fruit (ie: family history). So in saying that, Our christmas tree each year is decorated with laminated photos of our family interactions during the year, as well as family history photos of ones passed on. We also buy a couple of $2 decorations of stars representing the sign of Christ's births etc. I hope that can be an idea for someone. Quote
StrawberryFields Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 Tonight I was watching the news and they said the the craft stores did very well today on Black Friday. It seems many people are going home made this year. :) Quote
WANDERER Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 (edited) Super simple star: Using a square piece of paper: Fold in half and again across the centre to make quarters. Open up. Fold from corner to corner to make quarters with triangles. Put a dot halfway on each of the four centre cross lines (ignore the triangle lines). Join dots to corners with a straight line. Each dot joins to a corner on either side like a V shape. Cut along these lines. You can join two of them together to make 3D stars or overlap them or you can thread them together to make a star garland. This makes an awesome tree topper if you use silver card...but I've used recycled wrapping paper or foil. Creates a 4 point star. Age 7 and up. Once they catch on they like to make a lot of them and are happy to do so for an hour and a half LOL. Pipecleaners and lace ribbon with holes in it: Thread on lace. Twist pipe cleaner to make a circle wreath with a hook or a candycane shape. *oops we don't call them pipe cleaners any more for the sake of political correctness...chenille sticks LOL*.
