1 Nephi 11:18

17 And I said unto him: I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things.

----

18 And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh.

QUOTES FOR DISCUSSION

Why was it necessary for Jesus to have a mortal mother?<O:p</O:p
From his mother he inherited mortality, the power to lay down his life, to die, to permit body and spirit to separate. From his Father he inherited the power of immortality [and life].

In verse 18 the angel recognized that here was a mystery, too deep for Nephi, wherefore he hastened with the explanation that, "Behold the Virgin whom thou seest is the Mother of the Son of God, after the flesh." As Nephi accepted this tremendous revelation by faith, he needed no further explanation of the significance of the term, "condescension of God," used by the angel.
