Imagine you had a couple of hours just to sit with Joseph Smith and talk about doctrine. How much could you accept if he didn't hold back and began to unfold the mysteries of of the Kingdom of God. Where would you start to draw the line? Do we have any idea the things that he could and would say? Do you think it's possible that we might already know and accept more than the saints would have back then? Would we ever ask Joseph Smith where in the scriptures do you get that idea? Where do you come up with these crazy ideas? Can you reference that assumption to something credible? Here are just a couple of the quotes that convince me we really don't know anything about the organization of the kingdom of God, and we probably don't even know anything about the Plan of Salvation to. How do you think the church is going to respond to a sudden burst on increased knowledge about everything? How many people outside of the church will come into it because of it?

What do you think?

“I could explain a hundred fold more than I ever have of the glories of the kingdoms manifested to me in the vision, were I permitted, and were the people prepared to receive them. “

Joseph Smith, Jr.

“If I revealed all that has been made known to me, scarcely a man on this stand would stay with me." and "Brethren, if I were to tell you all I know of the kingdom of God, I do know that you would rise up and kill me.”

Joseph Smith, Jr.

“I have tried for a number of years to get the minds of the Saints prepared to receive the things of God; but we frequently see some of them, after suffering all they have for the work of God, will fly to pieces like glass as soon as anything comes that is contrary to their traditions: they cannot stand the fire at all. How many will be able to abide a celestial law, and go through and receive their exaltation, I am unable to say, as many are called, but few are chosen.”

Joseph Smith, Jr.

“Had I inspiration, revelation, and lungs to communicate what my soul has contemplated in times past, there is not a soul in this congregation but would go to their homes and shut their mouths in everlasting silence on religion till they had learned something.”

Joseph Smith, Jr.

“If you do not accuse each other, God will not accuse you. If you have no accuser you will enter heaven. What many people call sin is not sin; I do many things to break down superstition, and I will break it down.”

Joseph Smith, Jr.

“It is my meditation all the day, and more than my meat and drink, to know how I shall make the Saints of God comprehend the visions that roll like an overflowing surge before my mind. Oh! how I would delight to bring before you things which you never thought of! But poverty and the cares of the world prevent. But I am glad I have the privilege of communicating to you some things which, if grasped closely, will be a help to you when earthquakes bellow, the clouds gather, the lightnings flash, and the storms are ready to burst upon you like peals of thunder. Lay hold of these things and let not your knees or joints tremble, nor your hearts faint; and then what can earthquakes, wars and tornadoes do? Nothing.”

To me, this is the key point. I don't think such an outburst of spiritual knowledge will occur unless we as a people are ready to receive it. For that matter I don't think I'd receive personal revelation unless I was ready to receive it either.

I'm not sure I would want to talk to him about doctrine. I would like to hear first hand about his vision. I would like to hear first hand about some of the early history of the Church. I would like to hear about his experiences in setting up the restored Church. To me those would be so much more interesting.

I would want to get to know who he was, and feel the spirit that he exuded. I would ask him about his life, some questions I've had about him, and ask him to pray with me. I would wish to embrace him and thank him for the life he sacrificed that I may know about the restored Gospel.

Most of all, I'd plea with him to bear me his testimony about Christ and God the Father, and the church.

I feel that although i would have many questions about doctrine, i probably wouldnt ask many. I like most here, would be more interested in the man himself and his life. I would like him to simply speak about whatever was on his mind at that moment and just listen and watch him as he spoke. His facual features, his body language, stuff like that. These are things i would find far more interesting.
