alpha_female Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 I just want to say that I loved Under the Banner of Heaven, it had a lot of interesting information about the fundamentalists, as well as the true history of the church. I strongly recommend you read it. Quote

alpha_female Posted March 26, 2005 Author Report Posted March 26, 2005 Oh, stuff like how Joe Smith married 14 year old girls, and BY had 55 wives. Basically polygamy that the fundies who committed the murders practiced because it was the original practice of your church. Quote
Snow Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 That's it? That the big true history that you have to read Under the Banner to get? Golly, you must think you scored some big points with that little dandy. Nice bump by the way. Go get em tiger. Quote

Dale Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Hi, Polygamy stuff & Joseph Smith Jr. is a hot topic that you expect to find in such books. i live with it. At Kerry Shirts Mormonism Researched website in his Tanner section I think he has a note from Todd Comptom entitled In Sacred Lonliness. His book when it came out was abused by the Tanners. Jerald & Sandra Tanner are well known critics of Mormonism. But in his note he points out it was common to marry teenagers back then. Older men not only polygamists but monogamists married teenagers. And if the 14 year old is Helen Mar Kimball I learned something. Todd Comptom well studied on the polygamy & Joseph smith Jr. that is not sure sexuality had a role in the marriage. She thought that the marriage wasn't meant for life. Sincerely, Dale Sincerely, Quote
