DigitalShadow
She wished Rush would get kidney disease and die; It wasn't a joke. And the thought of a socialist college prof get puched in the nose does amuse me, but I don't wish death on them. There is a difference, but if you can't see that, it's more your problem then mine.First off, what makes you say it wasn't a joke? And second, I never said it was an exact parallel, just that it was ironic that you find injury being inflicted in jokes perfectly fine as long as it is someone you disagree with. Also, nowhere in the joke about the professor did it say he was "socialist" and even if he were how does that make it alright and even funny to assault him? TeancumsSword
First off, what makes you say it wasn't a joke? Also, nowhere in the joke about the professor did it say he was "socialist" and even if he were how does that make it alright and even funny to assault him?For me atheism and socialism go hand and hand. How in any language is wishing death on someone a joke? Humor is essentially about the finer facets of irony, there is nothing ironic about "I wish so and so would get a horrible disease and die."Edit: Again... if you can't see the difference between finding humor in a self-righteous prig get punched in his nose and wishing for someone to die, it is more your problem then mine. HEthePrimate
Today I watched the entirety of Sykes's talk, and thought it was hilarious. The President's jokes were also funny. Come on folks, lighten up! Besides, considering the vitriol that Limbaugh daily spews forth, if he's going to dish it out, he should be able to take it. Moksha
She wished Rush would get kidney disease and die; You have to understand the background of a joke as well as its rhythm. Rush originally said he hoped President Obama and his policies would fail. Sykes joke was in reference to that statement, and so she said, "I hope his (Rush) kidneys fail". Her intent at this point was to get laughs from the audience. Reading true malice into this would be like reading malice into any comedy monologue. Think of Don Rickles (for those old enough to remember), his comedy was not meant to be personally mean to audience members but rather to make them laugh. Even the libs on the view agree that the comments were in bad taste. Limbaugh doesn't call for anyone to die, he comments on policy.....quite a difference. As for Obama's comments being funny...he was pretty stiff, although the comment about Biden made me chuckle.
