Snow Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 So I live my whole life without stepping inside a Jewish temple and then BAM I go twice this year.Tonight we went to a service at Temple Beth Zion-Sinai. In addition to the regular service there was a speaker, Mark Paredes, ( http://www.israelemb.org/la/publicaffairs/...MarkParedes.htm ) a black Mormon, former diplomat in the Foreign Service talking on the prospects for peace in the Middle East.... okay I have no point in opening this thread, I am just enjoying learning abou Judaism and found it interesting that there is a black, Mormon expert on Israel. We talked to the Rabbi before the service so he knew we were Mormon, so he did parts of the service in English, for our sakes, instead of the normal Hebrew. Amillia Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 I have a dear friend who has also gotten caught up with the Judaism and more especially, it's cultural and religious celebrations. She closes her store and actually does all of them up to the extreme! Any plans to celebrate? Quote
Lindy Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 Snow~ go for it.....just enjoy learning about Judaism. I would have loved to have been there to have experienced the service myself. I had the opportunity to attend a program, with a Jewish friend years ago. And had the honor of listening to Holocaust survivors who stood up to denounce one of the speakers for dishonoring his heritage. More power to you in learning what you can. :) Quote

It was great! Quote
Guest curvette Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 I'm also fascinated with Israel. I love learning about their history and culture. Unfortunately, I'm too old to ever learn to love Leg of Lamb. Give me a tender Pork Roast any day!!!!!!! Quote
pushka Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 I have been interested in Judaism and the jewish way of life ever since studying the childhood life of Jesus in Scripture study at school...we had to learn about the culture into which he was born and everything. It was fascinating. I've been to a local Jewish Museum (Manchester, UK) and looked at documents there...bought a couple of little booklets about various aspects of jewish life/religion...as I was leaving a woman asked me if I had managed to trace any of my ancestors there!!
