ok so my little one got hurt pretty bad on sunday night. (full story here Blogs » a few yrs taken off my life » LDS Mormon Network ) the stitches have been in under 48 hours. she rubbed her eye tonight and there was a small amt of blood. i dabbed it with a moist towel so i could see what was going on, it appears the knot right next to her eye has come undone. it didn't bleed much only had to dab it once and the cut is still closed (didn't reopen). i cleaned all the stitches and put pleanty of ointment on them, especially around the eye.

my question is what do i do now? i looked up and found that disolving stitches (which these are) should last 7-10 days before coming out. so it's way to early. i'm not to worried about that specific stitch cause like i said the skin is holding. my thinking was to wait till morning, if the wound looks agitated call and see if they want me to go in to the plastic surgeon's office (which is a 2 hour drive). if it appeared fine to just let it be and keep tending it like i was told to. i will need to watch her much much closer about rubing her eyes (you would not believe how hard that is to do) but then i got to thinking what if that leads to others coming undone and reopening the wound. so now i'm just not sure.....

take a good look at the wound.....if it is closed, tend to it as normal......stress not scratching it....lol, i know.....good luck.

if it continues to bleed, a new bandage...like a butterfly, since some healing has taken place, may be appropriate.

watch, watch, watch......

sorry about your youngster.

i didn't call the dr. the wound has stayed closed, looks to be healing very well. i ran into the school nurse picking up my kids (she is an actual nurse) she looked at it and said it looks good, not to worry to much at this point. she has stopped rubbing her eyes a lot so maybe it was the knot that was bothering her (it was basically in her eyelashes) and will be fine now.

We had our first need for stitches a month ago, oh joy.... Your daughters might be different, but with my sons, they wanted us to not put any ointment on them at all and keep them completely dry until the day before they were to be taken out.

If it's on her eye, you don't want there to be much of a scar, and if there's no stitch, the skin can stretch out even if it's mostly together, why not give the doctor a call just to make sure?

we actually ended up going back to the er last friday night (the child can't do anything during normal hours lol). the stitches on her head swelled up pretty bad within just a few hours. looked like the doc had stitched a shooter marble under them, was very fluid puffy feeling. scared me. she has been on antibiotics so if it was infection was going to be bad. they looked at her head and her eye. said her eye looked great not to fuss. i've been learning more about stitches than i'd ever want to know, hopefully i won't need this knowledge in the future. it wasn't infected. seems when you have deep enough stitches sometimes you can get a small amt of bleeding under them (small bump or stitches coming out a little earlier than ready). iced it and let her body handle it. it's still slightly puffy but can't tell unless you are looking for it so it's much much better.

the baby is doing great, most upset she has now is mommy still won't give her the step back. lol
