has anybody ever heard of geocacheing??? i went today and found 3 "treasures" ...for those who don't know it is where you take a GPS system and use it to track coordinates and then when you find the place you search for the treasure...sometimes it is just signing the "log" that was left and other times you actually get a treasure but you have to leave something else for the next person...

I would think it fun if it was accomplished with a compass, sextant and clock but some electronic GPS system seems to me to be child’s play - which is how I suspect most will play this game - making it more of a exercise in hiking unless it is mostly accomplished by driving. If it is a driving game I think it is a waste of gas.

I had never heard of this before. Thanks for sharing it sounds fun. :D

I have done this on a much smaller scale with my children and they loved it. We have also buried a time capsule in our back yard before...good times.

well i already told u emanuele but for anyone else who wants to know...there is a website called www.geocaching.com where u can find geocaches in ur area..

So ldsgurl, what's your "handle?" Y'know, usually there's a ziplock bag with a notepad/pen/pencil and people sign their "handle" (nickname) and say the date, what they took, what they left. I usually write "tn/ln" for "took nothing, left nothing" 'cause I usually forget to bring anything worth leaving. It is fun though...the potential for dates is great too!!! :)

Geocaching is great fun. My husband introduced my son's scout troop to it at the beginning of the year. They have a travel bug whose mission is to travel to as many LDS temples as possible. It actually traveled really close to my mom's house (we live in NM she lives in OH) and she was able to get it. Taking it to the Columbus Temple this week. She is just tickled pink that she has their travel bug. We introduced her, my sister, and bil to it this summer. My mom just loves it. My sister is going to get my bil a GPS for Christmas. They are all hooked. My brother has been in it to it for a little while too. We have two family travel bugs that are in a race. Its great fun. Especially with little ones. My niece just loved finding the caches. She's only 4. It was precious. I would recommend it for anybody. Its great.
