Well it is possible that it can mean something different in different situations, as in your case in the adult world it probably connotates what you are making references to, but in our high school world hooking up is generally referred to as to what I have been mentioning.

With that being said, I believe the person coming here with wanting to "hook up" with a girl is coming from the high school world and so that's why it seems to me like what I have been saying.
