MormonTimes - family trees at heart of new site

ARTICLE EXCERPT: Most members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints now have access to New FamilySearch, a Web site that streamlines the processing of ancestral names for temple work.

"New FamilySearch is where you can build your personal family tree and prepare names for temple ordinances," said Paul Nauta, public affairs manager for FamilySearch.

Names can now be cleared from a home computer, rather than having to visit a family history center and use the "Temple Ready" program.

Latter-day Saints, whether they be seasoned family history researchers or novices, can go online and get a clean, simplified view of their family tree. Those involved with the project hope members will take time to explore their family lines.

"I just encourage everybody to get on first and see what's there, so that they can learn about their ancestors, have their heart turned and make sure their ordinances are completed," said Tim Cross, product manager for FamilySearch.
