How many of you observe the "five second" rule? If you drop food, like maybe a cookie and it lands on a normal floor, if you pick it up within 5 seconds and blow it off, is it still good to eat? I say yes.:D

Not even...I enjoy eating those lesser intelligence (microbiological identities). :D

I think Traveler can agree when we are in field [military], any food source eaten is still food for the stomach. ^_^

It depends. If it's sort of a sticky or "wet" food that will pick up dirt or hair, no. If it's a hard dry food, then sure. And only on my floor.

i pretty much agree with that. if i know how clean the surface that the item fell on was, that has a huge impact on whether or not i eat the dropped item. if it's something i have to wipe up with a cloth after it's dropped, i'll throw it away. but if i can just pick it up....sure, i'll eat it.

Mythbusters looked at this "rule". They found that there is little if any difference in the amount of transference of bacteria from 2 seconds to 10 seconds. That said, the type of food dropped has a lot more to do with it. They dropped crackers and roast beef. The roast beef collected lots of bacteria, the crackers hardly any.
